I am wondering about what is in the Ironman goodie bag, shirt like most races but are there water bottles and stuff like that. I will be doing my first Ironman and was just wondering what other Ironmans have given out in the past. For as much money that you pay for the entry fee, I was hopeing to get a lot of cool stuff

The first year of IMWI they gave out a nice Headsweats running hat.  Since then, I can't recall anything of redeeming value at all in the bag.  No shirt.  Want a shirt?  All you have to do is finish.

Yeah, as Steve said, don't get too excited about it. At LP this year the goodie bag had a lot of advertisements, a bag of Clinique skin products, and a poster. The finish bag was better, a nylon duffle bag with a nice t-shirt and a headsweats hat.

Oh so there is a finisher bag? I didn't know that, and that is the one with all the goodies that I am looking for.

The finishers bag for IMCDA had a hat, a t-shirt, and I think that is it.  But getting to the finish line was PRICELESS!

As others have said, don't be expecting much in the way of schwag at an IMNA event. I got a small back pack at IMC in 03 that I still use regularly. In 04 we got liscence plate holders (they can't be used in Oregon because they obscure the registration stickers). Other then that there may have be some Aquaphor samples, coupons and misc. crap.

At the finish you'll get a medal, shirt, and hat. And a memory that will likely last a lifetime.

I think you're more likely to find cool schwag at non IMNA/M-Dot events. I know the better schwag goodies I've received over the years has been at smaller grass-root races that are trying to make a name for themselves.

I never got a bag,  just the FINISHER t-shirt and the MEDAL..  Water bottles were generic Gatorade bottles.

It's called Shwag (goodies from the race).  I think I spelled it correctly.

My Clinique skin bottle was leaking all over the place, so that piece of junk was.......er, well, junk!  For $450+ you get a T-shirt and a finisher's medal and a hat.  The rest is at the expo...bring a credit card and be prepared for sticker shock.

I kept looking for the Ford Explorer that were being given away at CDA.

Portland Marathon gives away Fir Tree (or sometype of tree) saplings.

I was at IM Canada yesterday to sign up and went to the table where they had stacks and stacks of the Local Newspaper edition that has the results and cool stories and photos.  Old Ladies that were manning the tent said, only athletes with the wristband could get them.......This is at around noon day after....people are already gone.   Good Grief!

Having done five Ironman races I think we get great return on our investment. We get a very well organzied and run race logistically. I think much better done than the countless HIM, OD and sprint races I have done. We get true Championchip timing and splits and generally a well marked and stocked race course. We get a pre-race and post-race banquet. We get a bag, t-shirt and medal for finishing. We got Clinique stuff, a IMLP poster and some other SCHWAG too. As for the race expo, while some might find the prices higher for a jersey say (compared to Performence or Bikenashbar) I again find it totally in-line with similer branded jerseys from my local bike club or tri-club.

If those competing in their first Ironman were expecting a bike jersy, jacket or free Polar 725 watch then I think that those expectations are too high.

And besides, if someone thinks they can organize and run a better race than Ironman North Amercia then they should do it themselves. Personally, I think IMNA puts on the best races anywhere in the world. Most have no idea logistically what they have to go through with each race venue and put up with from us (the competitors).

I was somewhat shocked at registration at IMLP 2006 when I heard more than one competitor state in a raised and rude voice to the person trying to help them...."I don't have time for this" or "Can't you people move any faster". I was embarassed for them.

Myself, I am thankful to be able to compete in Ironman races and love the fellowship of being around mostly friendly athletes.

I will be totally stoked with a shirt that says IM finisher. I would like to get about 10 (from 1 race) cause I will wear the first one out. I will prolly never take it off.
