A race ready package went on sale this morning. you register for 70.3 and IMAZ. Total cost I think is $1000. Yes, more expensive than just IMAZ, but less expensive than flying out there to volunteer so you can get in. They say 24 hours, but also, "limited" number so jump on it if you are interested.

Actually I'm pretty upset about this. I already made my plan to be out there for the weekend to volunteer and sign up. Besides that, the 70.3 is too close to the full IM to be too great of a plan (4 weeks right? No thank you!)

Don't be upset. If doing both of them doesn't work for you anyway then just do your thing and enjoy volunteering. I would (will) likely do it the way you are. However, many races have options to pay more and get in as opposed to qualifying or, in this case, volunteering. No big deal. Do your thing and know that the racers appreciate the fact that you chose to volunteer.

I have to say, I have found a 70.3 4 weeks out is perfect for my Ironman prep. have done it that way 3 times now.

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.

I was not an official; I simply observed the race and the officials doing their thing. Here is what I saw:
