Today around 12 noon, after 3 hour of serious seizures and than another 7 or so hours of trying to medicate him out of it. We made the decision to let him rest and be out of pain.

This dog went to many marathons, two Ironman comps and many training runs of long distance. Love ya ButterRocketDog.

I'm sorry.  He was beautiful.

I can't even think about losing my current dog, even though I have lost others .  I haven't found anything in my life that hurts the way losing a good dog does.

My advice is to go find another running partner as soon as you are up to it.  Having them around is worth the pain of losing them.

I feel your pain. Having to make the decision to put a pet to sleep is the worst. It's amazing how our little critters become family, and he looks like an awesome little buddy. Best of luck getting through it.

Really sorry for your loss. He was a part of your family and it's not easy ... may you find joy in your memories of your time together.

Sorry , that's tough. I've had 5 dogs in my life and it was hard each time they moved on. I remember each of them much like other family members I've lost. And dam I wish I didn't look at the pic. My last one was a yellow lab we had for 13 years.

So sorry for your loss. :-( He looks like he was a great companion .

When that day came for me with my first lab, it was one of the hardest in my life. I have another in the near future I am afraid as my yellow lab is almost 13. On the happy side, we have a brand new rescue puppy - a super nice Catahoula/something mixed breed!

Sorry for your loss! He was a beautiful dog and I'm sure led an awesome life as your training partner in such a beautiful place.

Have never had a dog, or a lifestyle that would support dog ownership (mostly living overseas in small apartments) but I actually have a feline training partner. Smudgee has "supervised" nearly every trainer workout I've done since he was a kitten four years ago. Not sure why--it seems the noise would put off most cats. But he is very needy and just wants to be close to me, I guess. It would be hard to imagine an indoor ride without those big eyes staring at me from his customary spot next to the laptop on the desk.

It is a true gift from above when a dog looks into your eyes. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. Having said goodbye to both of our dogs in a four month span this past summer, I understand. There is no replacing a buddy like that but we picked up a 7 week old rescue puppy that I'm totally in love with.

I'm glad he was so loved in his too-short life. You have some beautiful memories of a beautiful dog. Seizures can be especially tough (been there).

Training is often a lonely proposition and sometimes we are our own worst enemies. Finding good training partners can provide you with that extra external motivation to bring out your best.

I was nervous. The water was cold. The cones defining the course were so far away. When the whistle blew for my wave, I waded in slowly to let everyone else pass me.
