So probably a fairly simple one... I'm reading a swim set of 1000 as 50 swim 50 pull 50 kick 50 catch up. I'm guessing you don't grab the pull buoy and kick board to execute the pull and kick??? Just little to no kick when pulling and hands in front during kick 50? Thanks for any guidance

I would assume that you would use the buoy and kickboard for each of those 50's. It only takes a second to grab them from the wall, and I'd hazard a guess that the intent would be to have 5-10 seconds of rest between each 50.

I agree.  Although there is nothing wrong with learning to pull without a pull buoy - one of the best ways to establish legitimate balance in the water, IMHO.

Starting out, I would say take 10 seconds between 50's and grab your gear if you feel you need it.

I would think the eventual goal would be to swim  the four 50's continuously with a short rest afterwards. making it a 5 x 200 set.

Personally, I very seldom use a pull buoy and I think learning to kick in streamline without a board helps establish & reinforce a good body alignment.

We did a similar set yesterday at masters practice where we swam a 200 IM as 4 x (25 drill/25 kick), swimming each of the IM strokes in order.  We just swam it continuously without using boards or other gear.

Yes, in general, "pull" means with pull buoy, "kick" means with kickboard.

If it says "pull" I use my pull buoy. If it says "kick" it depends. For a set like the one you mentioned, I'll do streamlined kick, usually on my back. If instead its a big set of just kicking, I'll grab the board.
