11 | Subject: HELP ME PLEASE!!! Damaged HUB??? So this is a sad unfortunate day. I bought a set of Zipp 60's off Probikekit and received them about a week ago. I haven't been able to ride them due to the weather so they have been sitting on the side lines. Today brought nice weather so I decided to mount some new GP4000s ii's and put my old cassette on to try out the wheels on the road. Well, as soon as I inflated the wheels I realized a made a mistake. Apparently 25mm tires don't fit on P3's. Well that sucks. Not as much as this. So I wasn't too angry as I was going to place a new order soon and could just sell the 25mm's on a classified site pretty easily. But I realized I needed to now take the cassette off these wheels and put them back on the olds. I took off the lock ring with the cassette tool and chain whip and then attempted to take off the cassette. I managed to take off the first cog with no problem but the second was jammed. I tried to pry it off but nothing worked. I took it to my LBS and they managed to get 2 cogs off. After closer inspection, one of the splines is damaged. I haven't even ridden these wheels yet!!! I am so bummed. I spent around 1250 for these wheels + about 140 duty fees. I cannot see myself putting any more money into them. Sending back to Europe would cost me probably around $100, then the return duty fee would be another $140. Does anyone have a recommendation for me? Anyone think sanding the area that is buldged out is okay? Instead of contacting PBK should I just go straight to Zipp? Thanks everyone. Nathan. That said, I agree with Dave... I wouldn't hesitate to sand it off and ride it. (although I'm not suggest YOU do that... just saying what I'd do.) |
