Upgrade Hybrid?

I did my first sprint race last year on a 90's hybrid and continue to use it to train. I am considering investing in a tri bike this season. I'm curious how much difference it would make, in terms of speed but also the feel of it. With a good fit on a new bike do you think I'd feel better training? I feel awkward sitting so upright.
