Please help with shoes

Bought the LG Tri X Lite bike shoes. The glossy material that covers the shoe grips onto the same glossy material that covers the tightening strap, making it impossible to get the shoes tight while riding, and near as hard when not. Tried putting tape where it runs and it interacts with the tape much the same way. Anybody have this issue, or any fixes? Racing in a week and really need this solved.
