Cervelo R3

Trek Domane

Specialized Roubaix

I'm 51. I have a tri bike. I'm looking for something with a relaxed geometry. If there's another one I need to look at, let me know.

Also......I have 5800 (105) on my tri bike. It's fine. Would you pay the upcharge to go to Ultegra? The Ultegra bikes can be had in my budget, but I don't want to spend any more than I need to.

If you have a road and tri bike, do you use the same type pedals on both?

I'm leaning towards the Domane right now........mostly because of wanting to buy it from the local Trek guy that has a great reputation.

If ultratega was within budget then I'd get it. But, 5800 105 is still good stuff. A good bike dealer/shop makes the trek look like a good option.

Buying from a guy with a good reputation is a good idea. I value the relationship with my LBS over anything else. And yes, Ultegra is worth it.

Fwiw I ride 105 RD and actually a tiagra FD and they work fine on the Tri bike. I pass a lot of people with this components. . I do have ultegra on the roadie though.

I looked at a Domane 4.5C, today. If they can find me a 58, I'm gonna buy it.

Trek usually fits a lot different than cervelo and specialized. You should be looking at fit first!

As for 105 to Ultegra; If you did a blind test you would probably not notice the difference between the 2.

I have tiagra/105 mix on my road bike and Ultegra on my tri bike,. 105 is really good for anyone. 105 today is probably the same as ulterga 3 or 4 years ago.

Ultegra is a little better, but it won't be a game changer.  If the bike with the Ultegra components has a nicer paint scheme I'd probably go for it.  If the 105 frame has a nicer paint job in your opinion, I'd go with that and save a few hundred in the process.

OK....the R3 is out.

Choices are between these two......

1. 2015 Specialized Roubaix SL4 (new) with 6800.......Retail $3,499.....on sale for $2,499.00 (they also have one with 5800 for $2,100)

2. Brand new 2016 Trek Domane 4.3 (5800) for $1,899.00
