Subject: need new handlebars
I think this is the right section. I have been training for about three weeks now using gym equipment. I got a decent pair of shoes and i have an old road bike I'm going to use for riding. The handlebars are way to narrow for me and I need a new set. No problem except when I got fit for a set I was fit at 48mm. The largest I can find is 46, the bike shop couldn't even order 48. does anyone know where I may be able to order one that big?

Check into how the bars are being measured. Some measure to the center of the bar, some measure outside to outside. If the recommendation of 48's is outside to outside, that would equate to a 46 measured to the center of the bar.

Those are VERY wide bars... Are you absolutely sure you need bars that wide? If you measure across your back from the boney protrusion on the back of your should to the same point on the opposite shoulder, that distance should be the same as the handlebar width. Also, as pointed out, make sure that dimension is center to center, not outside to outside (if measurements for outside to outside, add 2cm).
