Hey BT kids.

There's been a bunch of flooding down here this week, which makes for fun running. I had a 5 mile fast and exciting run along the creek, and sometimes through parts of it. At least twice I had to swim across where the trail used to be, and couldn't touch bottom. I also paused for a moment to take advantage of a huge rope swing that someone had set up in a tree above the creek. Sprinting through the wet forest covered from head to toe in mud is the best way I can think to spend a Sunday afternoon. Hope you're all training well today. Kim, can't wait to hear about your race

Wow--that looks kind of scary! Wet day here, but just from sweat. It hasn't rained for several days, and it's still rainy season. Humidity has been close to 100% and at some point it's going to dump.

3:45 trainer ride watching the Olympics (last long ride before Worlds--yeah!) and 30 minute brick run in the 100 degree heat after.

My mom said it was flooding down there. Be careful with those crossings.

HR- when do you leave for World's? Where is it and what is the distance? I don't think I can do trainer rides for 2 to 4 hours like you. Good luck

Leaving for Worlds next Wednesday after work. Yikes--not sure how I will ever get everything ready between my class (sub plans) and all the crap that triathlon involves. It's the 70.3 (half-iron distance) World Championships, which rotates to different places each year. Mooloolaba, Australia (near Brisbane) this year. (There are still people at work who don't get that I'm not going to Kona! That would be interesting as have never done a full IM and not really inclined to train for one anytime soon!) 1900m swim, 90 km bike, 21 km run. Long enough for me!

2-4 hour trainer rides are tough, especially the mental aspect. But when one's other option is a solo 2-4 hours of repeated 4-mile loops of an industrial park (the only place nearby where one can ride a tri bike in aero with something approaching "safety"--probably not, actually, by US standards, but safer than elsewhere here), no toilets or drinkable water in said park, and accessing park by a 3 mile ride each way on a busy road where there is probably a fatality a week, plus unstable weather in rainy season and hot, humid conditions year-round, the trainer starts to look quite attractive. At least on the trainer there are the options of TV, videos, and/or music, as well as a fridge full of cold drinks and munchies!

For anyone planning such rides, my advice--good bike snacks that you enjoy, something interesting to watch (or at least stare blankly at while you try to hold your power level and not puke) and a very structured workout. My power meter has saved me from insanity (or perhaps just pushed me into a new level of it.)

Crazy Uncle Jamie - how does Lady Bird Lake look? I'm supposed to do TriRock in two weeks . . .

6:45 - 7 mile run at a comfortably slow pace. Wife leaves for the week today, leaving me with the 3 year old. Should be interesting . . .

I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm surprised actually that the swim takes place in ladybird because I always hear that you shouldn't swim in it for bacterial and parasitic reasons. Keep your moth closed in there.

Feeling confident and cocky, after finally losing some weight, I got off my back side and into triathlon.
