Good morning BT!

4:15am:  :65 min run: 10 min WU/12X400m w/200 m recovery/cool down

5:20am:  core and some stetching

Early morning today as we're having a parent breakfast at school today.  Three day weekend though...whoo hoo!

A side note on the election--my school is 65% Hispanic.   So many kids (Hispanic and white) yesterday were joking about how in January the school hallways will be empty--they were kidding around but made me sad that even kids feel anxious.  Thankfully we do not have the bullying issue I've read about happening in many schools. I've assured the kids that life goes on here in our little town and our school will have the same population in January.

Kim,
I've been seeing absolutely miserable footage today of kids chanting "Build that wall" to the latino students at schools across the country. As a teacher, how do you approach a problem like this.

11:45 - strength. Really feeling it in my glutes. I have no doubt they need to get stronger.

Glad to hear no problems, at least yet, Kim.

Even my kids were pretty worked up over the election, and I have only 0.5 US citizens out of 19 (one dual citizen)! One of my former students apparently posted something very angry on social media that had them talking. I think some of their concerns are legit--we have some kids from Muslim-majority countries (not all Muslim themselves; and if they are, certainly the parents are no extremists if they send their kids to an American school!) but now they're afraid that summer plans for camp, family trips, etc. will be derailed, or if they can go, they'll be bullied. I'm even hearing these comments from Chinese and Vietnamese kids. Some have relatives in the States and are worried for their safety. We don't have big racial issues here at school, but the message it sends that some of the behavior and words they have seen during the campaign have apparently been given the stamp of approval does concern me. Like it or not, the US president is a kind of role model, and not just to Americans.

As for training, 2000m of very sluggish swimming. Just haven't been my usual energetic self this week. Not sure if it's election stress or whatever has had my two colleagues out for much of the week.

I'm on the other side of the college-student desk. I'm the one with the red pen in my hand. Those of us with schedules that change from day to day actually have an advantage, I think.
