Subject: HELP!! LOST GEAR at IMWI
Hi everyone! I am in need of your help! I raced at IMWI this weekend... racer #2256.

After the race...congratulations to everyone who was out there and finished in those horrific conditions by the way!... I changed into my dry clothes and crammed all my wet, smelly, race gear into my T1 and T2 bags.

I set the gear bags down by the escalators in the lobby of Monona Terrace so I didn't have to carry them when I went to the restrooms downstairs. When I came back.. my bags were both GONE!! I checked in lost and found for the rest of the day and on Monday until things were winding down...no sign of them anywhere.

I've estimated that I had close to $1000 worth of race gear in those two bags... including:

A wetsuit
running shoes with my custom orthodics
biking shoes
aero helmet
windbreaker vest
Hind tri top and shorts
goggles/ race swim cap
and various other race items

I am desperately *HOPING* and fervently *PRAYING* that someone picked the bags up by mistake. My name and/or race number was on all of my gear...Please, if you hear of anyone finding these bags... please contact me! I will pay to have them shipped back to me.

Many thanks for your help!
Jodi

Try contacting Ironman directly.  They might be able to help.

Ironman North America said it would take over 2 weeks for my gear to show up if it was left at the race site. Wow, can you imagine the FUNK that will be coming from my gear if it shows up at my door in 2 weeks? Ewwwwwwww!!!

Just thought of something else, although kind of a pain (then again, so is not having any of your gear).  You  might want to call the Monona Terrace office to see if anything was left behind.  Also, some of the main hotels in the area.  It might have been taken it to the front desk.

E-mail, Inspire and PM AJFreddy.  She lives about 2 miles from there.  Perhaps she can go take a look for you.

Hell, I'd be happy of the stench from those clothes if they came back.  This might sound weird...but you'd be amazed as to what Homeowners insurance covers.

Just a thought.

But you won't need it because it WILL come back to you.  Super bad Karma if someone took it.

Speaking of lost gear...

You'll read about this when I finish my race report, but my Bike to Run transition bag disappeared. I'm going to get in touch with IMNA about security at the site, because the only thing I can think happened is that after I dropped off my bag, somebody picked it up and walked away with it. I was the first one to drop it off in the general vicinity, my row was in line with a door, and I was #608, so my bag was right next to the doorway.

It never showed up a lost & found, in another location, or anywhere else, so I can only assume it was stolen. My wife took video and still pictures of me dropping everything off, too, so I know it was there.

Just a question- Ya know how they check your BIB # against your bike # when you transition to get your bike in some races- do they do that with the bags at all for IM's?

Is there a way you can write your name all big and bold across the bags or is that not allowed?  Just wondering becuase that would probably help alleviate a mix up.  I would hope that nobody stole your bag- because that's just awful.  But I guess you never know.  I'm anxious to read your RR and hear about your bag situation.

Now I'm worried about not getting my bags back from IM FL   I would hope that these situations don't happen often.

I borrowed a permanent marker pen from one of the volunteers in the transition bag room and put my name in big letters at the top of both of my T bags. I saw other bags that had their names written on top and they also put fluorescent orange flagging on the bag string ties to make their bags stand out from other bags - good idea for next year.

I think that's what I'll do.  Write my name AND tie a piece of colorful ribbon to it.

Sorry to hear about your lost gear, but on another note.... I tie a bright helium balloon to my transition bags.  Definetely no problem picking them out in a sea of other bags.

There were signs at IM WI forbidding balloons in the transition bag rooms.

Subject: MY GEAR HAS BEEN FOUND!
Hip hip HORRAY!!

My gear is coming! My gear is coming!

I was contacted this morning by a fellow IMMOO finisher in Iowa... His well-intentioned family picked up my gear by mistake, tossed it into the car for him, and he didn't discover it was my gear until Tuesday!

I was hoping and praying that something like that had happened. He was so kind to even CLEAN my gear and get it shipped out today!

Just wanted to pass on the celebration to you all!

Wow!! He cleaned it!! He must not have the great of a sense of smell, because, you know, that stuff's been in a bag for a little while.

I'm glad you got lucky!!!

Wow- that's awesome you're getting your gear back.  And he cleaned it all?  He must've felt bad.  This is a great sport with great people!

Congrats...

I have to pass along another story. A friend of my mom's has a son who did IMWI this year. His T2 bag was MIA when he got off the bike. Long story short...A spectator gave him his shoes and he completed IMWI in someone else's shoes & no socks. From eyewitness accounts, his feet are going to take weeks to heal

Badger IM - that's me! And the eyewitnesses are right - I've been wearing flip-flops every day since the race. I still can't put on a real pair of shoes.
