I found Triathlon 101 to be a great introductory book. After I read it, I had to buy it as a B-Day gift for my friend. Check it out.

i started on 'triathloning for ordinary mortals' by stephan jonas.  perfect for me...it has a couch to run program then follows with a complete oly program, plus tips on everything else..i wanted a program telling me what exactly to do not something i have to figure out..  not complicated, no formulas or hr stuff or lactate threshold...just a solid program to get u to finish.

but thats just me.  lots of other goodies out there to.

welcome.

The two books that were already named are both great resources, I could add the book Swim Bike Run all of these are good books.

I have Triathlon 101 also and like it a lot - very easy to read and understand.
