I am not really tempted to do an Ironman. To run across the tape, yes. To stick to a fairly rigid and very time-consuming training plan for months, no. I would like another crack at the HIM distance, though, once my cycling shapes up (I was at 4+ hours for the bike, which made for a very long day). I think my "tri" distance of choice will be the Olympic. I am very interested ina stand-alone marathon, though.

I am doing okay with the diet. I had peanut butter cups yesterday, but just the one package. I am hitting Trader Joe's tonight for my weight loss staples, like string cheese, fizzy water, frozen berries, and salmon. I KNOW how to do this, I just need to motivate myself. There is a hideously unflattering photo from the Cranberry Country Tri that I might have to stick on the fridge.

Enjoy the shopping. Hey, why don't you stick a GREAT photo of yourself on the fridge as inspriation (instead of one you don't like). Why feel negative every time you fix a meal? I think feeling positive is more helpful in the long run!

Positivity is ALWAYS a better way to go. As my weight watcher leader always says, if we could lose weight based on negativity and self-depreciation, then we'd all weigh a buck-oh-five...

On my refrigerator, I have a couple motivational things...a sign that says "Don't waste the Pretty" and a list of reasons why reaching goal is a good thing.

Im playing with the idea of a 1/2 IM in 2007 late season, probably SC HIM.  I need to be at least 20 lbs lighter to make that happen.

Some one here posted about sushi and made up my lunch plans for me.  I cant find anything definitive about calories in sushi.  Anyone have a good source?  I ate a lot.

Just keep at it.  Speed takes a while in swimming.  I have been struggling with the same frustration but after a few months I've started to note improvement.  It's also a different world once you get a wetsuit on.  If you have good swim strength and cardio the wetsuit shaves significant time per 100.

Try calorieking.com. They have the NI for tons of different foods.

The problem with calories in sushi is that it varies so dramaticly from one place to another.  You have to account for portion size and ingredient changes even among dishes that are called the same thing.

I have seen a bunch of listings but when I eat at three different places I know I'm getting three different meals (from a calorie standpoint) even though they may be called the same thing.  That said, I think if you stick with good choices from the menu you can just go with the calories of an equivellent amount of tuna and rice.  If you are really wanting to be carefull then add 100 to the number at the end.

Just my opinion.

oh yeah i'm patient with that... i mean i have almost a year till my first tri... i plan on doing my first one in september 2007... and i hope my swim lessons (startin 10 oct) will help too... hopefully lol

i got a question about those wetsuits though... do you wear them for every tri or just when it's not warm enough or how does that work?

Wow...everyone is doing great!

Cookies & ice cream...geez don't touch the stuff but once every couple months...makes me go off my eating program and I want more. If you guys can control you portions, more power to you.

My season is coming to a close with my final tri this weekend. I do 5K time trials every once in awhile normally to set my HR zones. I set a lot of goals if you look at my blog you'll see them all listed there. The hardest one my coach thought for me to get to was 9m/m pace in a 5K.

Today I accomplished a goal I didn't know that I would be able to do this year...I ran a 5K in 26:46 or 8:38 m/m. I was so amazed, proud & overwhelmed I actually cried afterwards...and I'm not a women who cries but ever couple of years.

I used to suck so much at running....my first 5K in a tri was 42 minutes...first stand alone 5K last Oct. was 35 minutes....a year ago the idea for me to run one 10 m/m anytime anywhere seemed like a huge dream. After I hit 10 m/m pace for 5K my coach said my new goal for 2006 should be 9 m/m...but it was a stretch...and guess what I hit 8:38...it will take awhile for it to sink in. Now all I need to do is get my running pace in my tris to improve...should be within maybe 15-20 seconds per mile of stand alone 5K pace.

I feel like I won the lottery.....and maybe next year I won't be BOP in the run...this year I only passed 8 people running all in the same tri...never another soul...and I did 7 or 8 tirs. For Saturday's tri I'm setting a goal of passing atleast one.

My post HIM celebration eating was only HIM day...so I feel good. Could buckle down and be a bit more strict but little steps are okay.

Start my new job tomorrow...see how it works out and how the family adjusts...8:30-5:30 are tough hours with lots of soccer after school.

I'm doing a HIM next Fall....and my training for it begins in 2 weeks. Much more structure and less flexibililty. I love riding my bike 4 hours....runs up to 1.5 hours are good too. This year I did the bike portion of a HIM, so my training was closer to HIM training than Oly training...so time wise won't be more...just less able to race when the whim hits me only at end of rest weeks.

Good job!!! You are such an inspiration to me! My goal is to run a sub 30 min 5K and I was beginning to think that it will never happen. You've just giving me the mojo I need!

i got a question about those wetsuits though... do you wear them for every tri or just when it's not warm enough or how does that work?

I always wear my wetsuit as it helps me balance better and makes me faster. I have it, it makes me faster, so it makes sense to wear it. Only when it is too hot can you not wear it. YOu should check out the USAT rules about wetsuits...at a certain temp. if you wear it you will not be eligible for awards and above another temp. noone can wear it because you can get to hot.

I think race directors like them as it helps folks float and feel safe. My 11 year old daughter does adult sprint races and I only let her do them after getting her a wetsuit as I knew if she panicked that she would be safe.

You are not a dork...just learning....

9 minutes/mile...that is the average pace that I had hoped to run...but I averaged 8:38 per mile...faster so better!

New goal for a year from now 7:59 m/m....pretty cool for someone who will be pushing 46 then!

KATHY YOU ROCK ON WOMAN!!!!!

Right now I can only dream, but I have realized that the best place for me to improve triathlon wise right now is going to be the run. And my target is a 30 minute 5K by the end of 2006. I think if I pushed I could do it now, mostly I just cruise along at the same old pace because it is a body habit. When I used to run ultras, I got VERY stuck at 12 m/m and I am still there. But if I pay attention like I did Monday I can start to speed it up a bit. AND adding in strength training and some hill repeats will help me, too.

I am definitely an endurance girl, tho', and yes, I also one day would like to complete an IM. I don't think I want to do it for a few years because I really want to enjoy DS as much as I can, he is my only kid and it won't be long before he won't think I'm fun to hang out with. I am pondering doing one in about 5 years, for turning 50. We'll see. I have watched the late finishers at IMAZ and IMWI this year on webcam and it just makes me WANT WANT WANT to be trying that. I've done 12hour ultra's, so I know I am stubborn enough. Just need to see if I can get my body into that kind of shape and still have a family....

Ok, enough dreaming, time to go pick up the rugrat and head home for some fun!

Kathy that is FANTASTIC! I would have cried too -- but then, I cry during commercials sometimes so I'm kinda blubbery that way.

Sounds like several of us have a 30 (or sub) min 5k as a goal, I know I do! Hearing that you ran your first standalone in 35:00, Kathy, and are now running that FAST is so inspirational! It makes me think that if I am patient and willing to put in the time and training I can maybe get there myself!

Yay!

Way to go Kathie. I love hearing success stories here. Day three is in the bank. 400 yard continuous swim today. Not all free, but moving all the time. Killed me on my run after, but whatever. Two steps forward and one step back is still progress.

TBZ - 2006-09-13 4:53 PM Kathy that is FANTASTIC! I would have cried too -- but then, I cry during commercials sometimes so I'm kinda blubbery that way.

Funny thing is I cry like every 2-3 years so this was very unusal for me..and crying over running well I guess after being slow for so long it was a huge break through for me

Last year the idea of running a 30 min 5K seemed daunting...really never thought I could do it. But having a coach who knows how to help me with periodization/peaking and all that made the difference. I have renamed my least favorite workouts on my training plan run intervals as "my favorite workouts" as part of the plan to change my attitude towards working hard on running. Intervals are the key to teaching my body how to run faster in shorter spurts so when I want to go faster longer my body knows how to do it. Guess what last year the workouts I skipped most of the time....run intervals. This year, I skipped none...as I knew they were the key to getting faster. My off season goals are to learn to run faster, improve swim technique to swim faster, and get stronger doing strength training which will help me with s/b/r all.

Thanks Michelle. Can someone tell me how to get the time spent weight training yesterday to show up in my minutes? I was on a circuit at the gym and kept my heart rate elevated. I want all the credit I can get.

I think this is how:

In your training log, click the first icon shown under "Quick Links" up near the calendar. It looks like a little window with an orange flower next to it (I have no idea what that is actually).

This is how you edit alot of your training log settings. Scroll down until you see Customize your reports (Actual only). Put a check in the box next to "Strength". Then scroll all the way to the bottom and click "Apply".

See if that works?

But, uh, it might not.

Stick a fork in me, I'm done now. Finished my second workout and now I'm ging to get into some serious lounging. I'm talking real POWER lounging here -- the kind where you wear an incredibly worn-out (but super soft) robe (nevermind the holes) and pink bunny slippers. Ahhhhh...... to sleep the sleep of the righteous.

Hope everyone has a great night, see ya'll in the morning!

Great to see that everyone seems to have a good workout day, today!
Sushi... mmmm... usually a low-calorie and very tasty choice...

Ironman... yes, one day I hope to be able to complete iron-length events... My thought is that by the time I hit 50 (gives me six years), that I will have enough of a base built up, perhaps a bit more flex time at work, as well as perhaps the onset of senility (LOL) so that I will be more oblivious to the pain...

Have a great night everyone... as for me, my feet are killing me... takes a lot of "strength" to stand around in a booth all day, talking to people about our products...  One more day to go!
