West side here...........Douglasville. Hey we should all ride the Silver Comet sometime. We have a really neat scenic ride near me in South Fulton Co. The locals call it "Silver Sheets". You all probably know the even better trails too.

Tony (and weeks out from the High Falls tri! Anyone else doing this one in Jackson?)

August 21st in Jackson, GA (about 40-45 minutes south of ATL) It is a 600m swim, 11.7bike, and 5k run. I understand it is a very novice friendly race and everyone is in a good mood for it. I signed up on active.com as a novice vs. age group.
Got your riding message too. Sounds good!

I am going to skip that since I am doing the Tri-PTC the next week. That one is also on Active. Let's keep in touch and get out for a ride!

Tony,
you asked if anyone was doing the High Falls tri, I was going to volunteer at it, and then participate in the Peachtree city one the following week. but I've heard enough hipe about the High Falls that I'm seriously considering signing up for it also.

I'm all for a group ride some time.

Tom,

I signed up and then spoke with someone at All3Sports and she said "Oh, you will really love it. Everyone is so friendly and pumped up since it is the last one of the season (for that particular series). It is really novice friendly too."

If you sign up for it and it is your first, maybe select Novice vs your age group. The race director advised me that this is probably best for your first tri.

Atlantans- let's get our calendars together and choose a ride day. Are Saturday's or Sunday mornings best and at what time for the Silver Comet? Would rather not do Aug 7 or 21st(race day!)

Thanks,
Tony

I'm working on getting a bike soon and I would love to join you all, but if anyone wants to go for a run let me know. I run on the Silver Comet from time to time and at the Chattahoochee River. I'm sure that some of you have passed me on your bikes.

Karl,

I am doing High Falls. A co-worker and I are thinking of going down to bike/run the course. Only downfall (and I have checked) is you cannot swim in the High Falls lake. The race director has special permission and insurance to race on Aug 21 only. We might swim at the lake in Clayton Co. that has a beach then drive down to the park.

Have you open water swam yet? Probably not doing another ATL event but might do the one in Destin, FL on Oct 9th.
Good luck training and maybe I will meet you at the race!

Tony,

That's great. I'm doing both the High Falls and the Destin Crab Trap. I was just in Destin last weekend. That will be a fun event. The roads are completely flat and the only obstacle is the wind, which usually blows from east to west in the morning.

We should try to meet up at High Falls. Are you going down there the evening before?

Karl,

If I get to train on the High Falls course I will let you know. My parents actually live in McDonough so my wife and I are planning to stay with them so I can get an extra 45-60mins of sleep that morning. Are you planning to stay in Jackson Friday night? Are there events or a dinner I am missing? I will probably leave from work and go pick up my race packet on Friday but I think you have to before 7pm.

Let's try and meet up for sure.
Keep tri'n!

Tony

Tony,

I hate to ask you this, but while you're down there, if you just happen to see any hotels nearby, would you post their names here? I will probably drive down Friday. I live at least 90 minutes away up in Alpharetta, and would rather spend that time sleeping instead of navigating Atlanta traffic.

Have a great time and I look forward to hearing about the course.

Karl,

I will but also check http://tribluesky.com/as they have listed 2 hotels in Jackson. Go to this site under events, High Falls, race details, then scroll to the bottom. Let me know if you cannot find it.
