Subject: PETA and the Orkin man
I got to the airport yesterday and the Orkin guy was there waiting to be escorted into my office. He starts by picking up all those white cardboard glue traps. He asked me to throw away any that I find in the future, just in case he missed picking any up. He relayed that PETA lobbied against the City of SA about using inhumane glue traps… and they won! If he missed any traps, PETA would have his azz. So, no more effective scorpion control for any buildings owned by the City of SA.

Glue traps, according to the Orkin man, are one of the most effective methods of eliminating scorpions. To prove his point, he showed me the ones he picked up and sure enough almost everyone had a scorpion trapped on it. Unfortunately, per PETA, they are indiscriminate killers of mice. The mouse, once trapped, will be left to die a slow agonizing death. So we don't get scorpion control for the sake of being humane to mice.

I mentioned to him that I had seen several recently in and around my house and he ran out to his truck and brought me about 40 of them! Last night I placed one on the floor in our mudroom when I got home from work. I had a little friend stuck this AM when I got up.

I was just surprised that PETA has tentacles that deep into the the SA city hall. The already rendered animal control useless for the county several years ago. No kill shelter policy has made the place a dumping ground for chihuahuas and pit bulls. They also aren't allowed to pick up a stray until it draws blood. Seems PETA feels all animals have the right to roam freely until someone gets hurt. I learned this when we had a stray in the area a few years back. The county dog catcher showed up and told me his job was mostly driving around telling people that he couldn't catch stray animals. He suggested we call the sheriff's office, tell them the dog threatened to bite you and suggested that they dispatch the animal.

Now we have them protecting mice rights. MLM!!!!!!!

It's south Texas. Turn over a rock and chances are there's something under it that will get you. I've never been stung by one, but I've been told it's painful. My wife stepped on one the first week we lived in SA; it stung her on the inside of her foot. She hit the ground like she'd been shot.
