Who will be there.....to compete, volunteer or to watch?

I plan on leaving Saturday, sleeping in my van watching sunday until midnight sleep in the van and head home. I was supposed to go with my family but since I am unemployed figured this would be cheaper.

IF you are going to be there look for the big ugly fat guy wearing a beginner triathlete t shirt near the finishing line.

I'll be there, supporting several friends.  Driving up on my motorcycle late Saturday night, arriving around 5 AM Sunday morning.  Look for the guy with the mermaid tattoo on his left shoulder/upper arm.

Hi Max

just curious what your motor powered two wheeler is ....................I do a lot of my motorcycle riding out in the Berkshires and have a tentative trip to the Lake Placid area this fall as a Foliage run..........I am riding a Yamaha Roadstar 1600 and just love cruising the backroads of New England..................my new found interest in working out has definitely reduced my time on my motorcycle so the times I do get to ride are great .....................dont want to veer from the tri discussion too far but it caught my eye.........

I'm riding a 2001 yellow Honda Goldwing...pretty easy to spot because of the color!  My wife and I do a bit of touring on it, we have been around the country on a 4-week trip, out to Arizona, Colorado, Utah, etc.  Here's a shot of it:

I'll be there in spirit, monitoring from the computer.  I have some friends doing Lake Placid.

Yes, just go here  ~~~~~~~>>   http://www.ironmanusa.com/

You can search for entry numbers by name if you know who is competing.

Darn it all anyway! I wish I knew about this earlier....I would have loved to go and watch.  Lake Placid is relatively close to here.  But I have made other plans.  Have fun, all.

www.ironmanlive.com gives up-to-the-minute details during the race, including the race announcer's voice.  Somehow I think there is supposed to be a visual at the finish line but either my computer isn't set up that way or I just don't know how to do it.  Last year I actually happened to be on the site when one of my friends crossed the finish line so I heard the announcer say her name!  Great timing.

If you go to that link Sharon and click on the Lake Placid race, they currently do have a few audio and video interviews, including one with Heather Fuhr.  It seems like they may update that audio/video tomorrow morning at 7 AM to provide live race coverage.  You need Windows Media Player or something similar on the computer to watch the clips, but that is usually installed along with whatever Windows version you are using.

Thanks for the info Max.  I know we have Media Player somewhere in the computer, but I'm not exactly a rocket scientist when it comes to knowing how to work them.  I was able to get only sound last year (and impressed with myself that I figured out that much!!).  I'll have to ask hubby how to get video.

Even as we speak, I am on the www.ironmanlive.com website.  I'm getting a great picture, but no sound, and I'm expecting a friend of mine to be finishing soon (~15 hours).  I'M SO FRUSTRATED!  I was hoping to be able to do other things and listen for her name, but I guess not.  I hope she's doing well.  Another of my friends finished in about 13 1/2 hours.  YAY!!  Best of luck to everyone competing.

I am worried about my friend. 1:20 for the swim, 8 hours on the bike and 3 hours for the first half of the marathon. This woman rides over 20 MPH and does half marathons in 1:30. I'm thinking she'll be close to the cutoff time. Her husband finished in 12 hours even. I was watching the live feed and managed to miss seeing him. Oh well.

I just got back too...nearly midnight after a 24 hour ordeal.  I left here LAST midnight for the 5 hour drive up on the bike.  Parked my bike in Lot "A" and rode the shuttle bus to the center of town.  Watched the swim from the beach, then stood along the fence while the competitors ran down to the transition area.  My next vantage point was to run about 2 miles out onto the bike course, where the riders come off Rt. 86 to make their way back to town.  I ran into a local family who had set up a huge stereo system by the side of the road.  The guy was dressed up in Mexican garb, handing out cups of Gatorade and playing rock music at ear splitting volume...WOW it was GREAT!  They called their little set-up "South of the border".  I think you had to be a little insane to hang out with him....er, I seemed to fit in just fine!  What does that tell you about me?  After spending about 5 hours there, I returned to town and sat on the run section where they have to do a loop next to the lake, and watched the race from there.  I was able to take pictures of a couple of friends, so that was cool.  Ellen, I saw Jeff for a split second on his first bike lap, but I never saw him after that, and I didn't see Cheryl at all.  So I got no pictures of either of them.

It was a great day, the sun came out and it got pretty warm mid-day, but started to cool down later on which probably helped the stragglers.  I left about 6:45 PM and suffered through the 5 hour ride home, getting back just before midnight.  I was going to go to bed, but first I got to watch the last stage of the Tour de France!

glad to hear you had a good time.  It's on my list of things to do next year.  Jeff finished in 12 hours even and Cheryl finished a few hours later.  I cannot wait to hear their stories!  I also can't believe you remembered their numbers and to look for them.  Thanx
