Subject: Greetings... Greetings,
My name is Rob and I'm a beginner. In fact, I just started "running" 4 months ago, as part of a weight loss program. (I'm 5'7" was 240 but am not down to 200. ) Back in the day I used to be a competitive MTB racer but never did any road races or running.
I've really enjoyed the time I have spent on my treadmill the past several months and have decided to get serious about my running / cycling. Yesterday I went to a dedicated running/Tri store and purchased a pair of running shoes. I also bought a road bike a week ago and have started spinning on that.
I typicall run for 30 - 45 min, covering 2.25 - 3.5 miles, depending on the day/effort. Last week I did push my run out for an hour to see how I would do and managed 4.65 miles. My longest ride, since I've started back, has been 15 miles and I did that in 1:09:50. The point is that I'm in the process of getting back into shape but taking it easy in doing so. I don't want to push myself to the point or burnout or injury.
I am thinking about signing up for a flat, 5 mile road race that will be held in just over a month and I'm going to start seriously training for that today. I will wait until the middle of next moth to decide if I'm ready for it our not. Of course my goal will not be to race/place but to finish.
I'm looking forward to getting around this site and seeing what all of you have to offer in the form of advice. And, maybe someday I'll be able to add some of my experiences as well.
Best regards,
Rob - in CT
