Subject: RE: Hi All Hi Debbie, The mix of running, biking and swimming make for a great all around fitness program. I expect the conditioning will come back pretty quickly for you since you have done a lot of endurance training as a swimmer. Is the cramp during running you mention in your legs or your side? If it is a side stitch, concentrate on exhaling fully. I used to work on this a lot to help get over side stitches. If it is a leg cramp, it could be low electrolytes, particularly potassium. They say eating bananas (high in potassium) is good for leg cramps. You probably know all about nutrition for endurance training from your swimming days. More likely, it could just be fatigue. If you are tensing your legs while running, you may be causing some early fatigue that results in cramps. Every muscle ought to be relaxed while you are running, except the ones that are pushing you forward. Try to mix in some walking before the time when the cramps usually start so that you can build up the workout duration first. Then work on running more and more until you can run continously for the duration of your workout. Stay in this triathlon game. You will get hooked pretty quickly on the people and on the way the training makes you feel. TW |
