Subject: Bike Trainer Setup pics, anyone?

Hi gang,

Looking for pics of your bike trainer setup at your home or office, or wherever.  I'm getting my Fluid2 setup this week--after some small missing parts arrive.

I'm specifically, looking for ideas on: where in the house, what audio/video setup, fan/ventilation, bike-sweat-protection, front-wheel stabilization, etc.

As they say, a pictures is worth a thousand words.

TIA!

I have my bike set up in the garage.

But where are the smoke-streamers for wind-tunnel testing? LOL!

Thanks for the pic. Very nice. Love the TV mounting. What are those other bikes I see hanging up in the rafters?

Sorry, no pics so you'll have to settle for words (far less than 1,000).

Mine is in the basement, behind a couch, facing a TV.  Bike & trainer are on a rubberized exercise mat (similar to this but bought at a general sports store for @$15-20) to keep the sweat from collecting on the carpet (I use a "sweat-thong" as well to keep it from getting all over the bike).  A front wheel riser levels-out the bike.  Just recently set up a fan on the table next to the couch--not sure why I hadn't done this before!

Mine is currently in a corner of the living room facing the TV.  But, I've found that if I watch TV, I want to get off when a show is over, not keep going the full time.  I like using my iPod to stay motivated.

The trainer will move out to the sunroom (still facing into the LR/TV) after the fan gets installed.  Definitly get the rubber flooring (Sports Authority) for underneath to protect real floor.  And I just picked up a Cycleops Rock Climber to stabilize the front wheel.

Will try and post a pick later when I get the bike reset up.  Took it for a fitting this weekend.  Yea!!!!

1990 Diamondback Ascent mountain bike.   I rode my first few tris on it, knobby tires and all.

2001 Schwinn Super Sport GL.  Rode my first two IM on it, proof that you don't need an expensive bike to do an IM.  I'm going to turn this into my winter outside bike.

I'm also interested in the setups. I'm thinking about buying a trainer for this winter.

i want to buy a trainer for the winter, too. and i have only two options on where to put it... next to my desk where i'd probably be bored to death after 10 mins or i just get rid of my dining table since i never use it anyways and put it in my dining/livingroom where it would face the tv... yeah i guess i'll go for option 2...

Sorry, no pics, but I have an awesome place for my trainer - the sunroom. It has heat, but is barely used in the winter, so the heat remains off (down) and the room is a comfortable 55 degrees all winter. Rather than riding in the regular part of the house where it's 12+ degrees warmer, I have a nice cool room (55 indoors is a lot warmer than 55 outdoors). I have a TV & DVD right in front of me, or I stick CDs in the DVD player. And, on the days when it's a little warmer (but not enough daylight to ride outside), I can open all 13 windows and it feels like I am riding outside. Of course, this is all at my temporary home and I won't have that luxury much longer .

This pic is from last year.   I probably won't put it back on the trainer till December, I hope.

My tv is off to the left.

Here are a couple of our set up.

Kinda of hard to tell, but there is enough room between the treadmill and the Trainer platform for a set of rollers. There is a set of speakers next to the TV and a pair behind the Trainer/Treadmill.

The first is an overview photo. Bad lighting but you get the idea. Hoist Fitness center in the back; Cycleops Fluid 2 sits in front of the weight bench; Precor 9.35 to the side of the bike trainer.

Next is closer picture of biking and running area - with the TV of course (Mark Allen crossing the line in the 1991 Hawaii Ironman. On top of the TV - Ironman videos from 1991 to 2005. Apologies that I don't actually have the bike on the trainer. I still have my race wheels on the tri bike. Training wheels are the Velomax's in front of the TV. Like others, I use an old phone book as a riser.

Wow - what a setup!!! I can't believe how much equipment (treadmill, weights, bosu, etc) you guys have. I don't feel so guilty with investing a little more in my training equipment. Thanks!

Mine in my Aunt-in-law's basement (since our house STILL isn't done). My position has changed a bit since then, so no ST comments on the angles ....... ;-P

Wheel chock is a 2x4 with two 3/4 boards nailed vertically. Took 5 minutes to make and cost nothing .....

No pics, unfortunately.

I've got a loveseat in the middle of the den, about 30 degrees off perpendicular to - and to the left of - the TV. The bike is on the MAG 850R behind the couch, so when I'm on the bike have to look about 30deg to the right to see the TV (really, it's still in my field of vision to the side when looking straight ahead). I use the yellow pages for a riser, and I wish I had a fan. And my training wheels ARE my race wheels. I usually pull off my shirt about 5 minutes into the ride and cover the headset and bars with it.

TV setup is the basic no-frills home thing. TV (32" tube), DVD, VCR, stereo driving basic 5-speaker surround. I'm doing base on the bike right now, so I usually spin easy through an episode of Law & Order, or a couple Everybody Loves Raymonds, or whatever the wife wants to watch. In a pinch, I've got a Spinervals (#1), a DVD of the '04 Ironman NBC coverage, and Stage 15 from this year.

Future plans include a mat, a better trainer, a fan, and a portable DVD player so I can play Spinervals up close on mute (or low volume) while the TV is going. Oh, and a subwoofer.

Hmm... 220 words. Not even 1/4 of a picture. But maybe it'll do.
