I decided I finally earned my m-dot w/ my third IM finish under interesting weather conditions but I have some questions... How do you go about picking a place to get it done? Health screening, new needles, new ink, I really don't even know what questions to ask.

If you see someone with tattoos that you like (quality-wise) ask where they got it done. Go to some shops and look around and see how clean they are. Ask about their cleanliness (autoclaving of needles, wearing gloves, etc). Observe for a bit and see how clean they are. Do they pick up the phone with gloved hands? If so, not good.

Always ask to see the artist's portfolio. They should have no problem sharing it if asked. Talk to them about your ideas and you can even ask about price. Be sure to tip when it's all done! And follow the care directions they give you (no swimming, hot tubbing, etc for several days after, etc).

Have fun!

Oh S*%&! I was supposed to tip her? oops.
My little ankle tat cost 60 bucks. I was told not to swim for 2 weeks. Its a good off season thing to do.

mndiver - 2006-10-09 12:32 PM In order to counter balance a minivan you will need a bit more. My suggestion..add a 7 foot python wrapping around your ankle and leg moving up to the small of your back. As it reaches your back have it clutching an American flag in it's jaws. Just above the flag have an eagle with it's wings spread from shoulder blade to shoulder blade. Sleave -out both arms with various designs to your own liking. As far as the front, maybe you can go with your name printed in chinese letters across your stomach. Last but not least, spell out LOVE and HATE on the knuckles of each hand. This should come close to a mini van counter balance.

Uh-oh....we have TWO minivans - wonder if I have enough skin to counteract them both!

My first tattoo. Got it a little more than 24 hours after my first marathon. It is a rendering of the Finishers medalion. Instead of finisher it has my time. Not fast but a marathon behind me none the less. It is on my right leg, just above the sock line.

Any of you gals out there know if they have any tri body jewelry?  I've looked around but found nothing (not surprisingly). I have a belly button ring, and thought it would be really cool to have some sort of charm or something for it.
