Comments: Went out too slowly - for first 2km was being overtaken by everyone and didn't overtake anyone (and I mean all shapes, sizes and ages!). Think the energy gels at the start and during the race helped. Felt very relaxed and comfortable throughout. Passed my 3 brothers just before the 6km mark as they had stopped by the water tables but I had my camelbak with me so didn't need to slow down to take on water. From then on I was overtaking lots of people which I was pleased about. Last 3km felt good enough to run quite hard and in last km managed a couple of sprints at the end. Really pleased to finish in under an hour and a couple of minutes ahead of my brothers. Such a buzz when I finished and collected my medal. What would you do differently?: Overall I think my training couldn't have been much better - the race was comfortable throughout and I had energy left in the tank for the last 2km to do some quick pace stuff. I should've gone out a bit quicker at the beginning and then maybe I would've broken 55 minutes. For events in future I will definitely wear a digital watch that can monitor my split times so I can keep pace better. Post race
Warm down: few stretches but probably not enough as was just excited about finishing. Also didn't eat or drink anything straight after the race which I know is a terrible thing to do! What limited your ability to perform faster: Me Last updated: 2006-10-09 12:00 AM
