HI! I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm David and have just begun training a week or so ago. I'm 32, married and have a 3 y/o daughter and a son due to be born in October! I'm really enjoying my training so far. I've been really out of shape for a long time and have a lot of weight to lose (I was right at 270lbs. last week) but I am motivated to make necessary changes. I'm not new to training but I let it move to the bottom of my priority list for so long until I just quit all together. In 1997, just before my wife and I started dating, I ran the Memphis Marathon (4:38)! I hope to run that distance again some day but I'm happy now just to be training. I've been swimming and run/walking so far and I have a new bike ordered. It will be in at my bike shop any day now!! I have really enjoyed all the articles, advise and wisdom I've been reading here. I hope to contribute whatever I can to the discussions but for now I could use any advise I can get.

Take care

Hey David welcome. Your story sounds a lot like mine. I was 164# in college, then by age 35 I was up to 284#. Over the last year I've lost over 50 pounds. My wake up call was when I couldn't get up off of the floor while holding my one year old daughter. Amazing what a motivational force those little kids can be. When I started training I couldn't even jog for 10 mins., now I'm doing 11 min miles and running 3 miles four times a week.

With your back ground you will have no problems. Keep your goals realistic, and keep going forward on every stage of your training. Remember that every step, even if your walking is taking you one step closer to your goal.
