Alright, I PB for my XC race today. Course was a little congested but in the open I really felt strong.

Now to the dilemma:

I clocked this race with my HRM, start to shortly after the finish. I kicked it hard to try and pass someone in the closing meters (10ft I would have had him too). It was a chute finish, so I grabbed my slip and leaned over a picnic table for a few second to catch my breath. This is when I stopped my watch. 31mins, 28 sec. so I figure my actual time was somewhere in the 30:30-31:00 range.

Official reasults were just posted http://coppsindoor.org/ctk%20all.htm and this this the problem. It says I ran 31:38. Eh? and I was 6 second slower than the guy I was catching? I was a stride and a half behind the guy.

I plan on bringing this up with my coach tomorrow but still...what gives that my time was that off?

I do not know? I felt I had an error like this in a race but assumed I just did something wrong. I guess it comes down to what you want to do with it.

That sucks, but what can you really do?  Unless this a pro event with money on the line or national rankings, you have nothing to gain by causing an uproar.   You can mark down your HRM time as a personal best and move on.

I would not do a thing about this.  I ran XC a loooong time ago so some things may have changed or I just don't remember right but...

1 - XC points are based on placing not time.  You could have finished 5 minutes behind the guy in front of you and your points would not change.

2 - When I ran we were not allowed to carry watches or any timing device.  HRM, footpods, and the like were all sci-fi but if they had been around they would have been banned too.  So comparing your time to the OFFICAL time may open up a whole new set of problems.

Just my $0.02.
