I'm signed up to do the marathon!

It will be my first mary, and I fully expect to take 5:30 to finish.  Who else will be out there, and what is your estimated time?

I'm in for the full... Shooting for a 3:45.

For those of you in the PHX area, you should think about the Fiesta Bowl Half Marathon on Dec 3 (in Scottsdale) as a training run. Smaller, fun race - great people.

This will be my 5th marathon, sort of. I've done the Tucson Marathon and the Lost Dutchman Marathon (Apache Junction, AZ) but i've also done a marathon in the context of an IM, Oklahoma City Redman, and one ultra, Ghost Town 38.5.

However, this is my first BIG marathon with zillions of people so I'm looking forward to that and all the festivities surrounding the race. It will be my wife's first marathon and my son's first 1/2 mary.

It's now official...i'm registered for the 1/2. Let's hope the holiday partying doesn't weigh me down too much! I'm hoping for some solid weeks of run training after this weekend's bike race.

I have signed up to do the 1/2. I did it last year in 1:50, so the plan is to beat that time. We'll see. This is always a difficult time of year to keep up the training. Good luck to all!

Just signed up for the 1/2.  My first one and am shooting for ~2 hours.  If you are registered with www.active.com, you get a discount code for both the 1/2 and full to save $10-$15.  Good luck to everyone in their training!

Woohoo!  I got the "final instructions" in the mail yesterday!  I'm currently assigned to corral 12, but I think I'm going to try to get that changed.  I don't think I gave myself enough credit when I registered, and I will probably be at least 45 minutes faster than my original estimate.

Did everyone else get their packet?  What corral are you in?

I'm in corral # 10 as I projected 5:00. Hopefully it will be a little less than that.

My husband and I are doing the 1/2. This is his first 1/2 mary. He runs slower than me and just wants to finish, so I've decided to run along side of him the entire way at his pace and encourage him though it. I think it will be cool to get the finish line photo of us crossing the line together.

Speaking of it being cool.....last year I ran it over-dressed and hot!  I wish I had worn some layers of clothing I was willing to part with, so I could peel them off and throw them to the side of the road, as I heard they come through afterward and pick them up and donate them to charity.  Sure enough...here is a story from azcentral.com:

Marathoners to shed layers, help needy

Jan. 12, 2007 12:00 AM

If you were among the thousands of people lining the route of last year's P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & ½ Marathon, you might have noticed some people picking up items of clothing shed by the runners.

They weren't stealing. They were Goodwill of Central Arizona employees and volunteers, and they were collecting the clothes to sell at the organization's retail stores.

The Goodwill folks will be back on Sunday to collect clothing from this year's full and half marathons.

Here's how it works: Many runners wear several layers of clothing to keep them warm before the race, and they shed items as they heat up during the run. They know they will never see them again, unless they have friends stationed at predetermined pickup spots along the route, because their race packet warns them that discarded items will be donated to charity.

Goodwill spokeswoman Katrina Thurman, a participant in the pickup, said the organization collected two trucks full of clothing last year, including jackets, hats, sweatshirts, running pants and gloves. They brought in $47,000 for Goodwill.

"It's amazing how much stuff is discarded," Thurman said. "It produces some good postrace revenue."
