Hi All!

It was last weekend that I decided I could be a triathlete. I was talking to a friend who had just finished a sprint (didn't even know what that meant) in an hour and 8. (WOW!) Her excitement rubbed off on me and (after a few adult beverages) I started asking lots of questions...."So how far was it? Was the swim hard? How many people? What kind of bike do you have again? When did you say your next one was? September 25th, huh?" And then in the back of my mind I was thinking...Well, I know how to swim...I own a bike...Sometimes I run..."I'LL DO IT WITH YOU!"

So now here I am...with 8 weeks to go...trying to figure it all out.

As far as swimming goes, I'm a little rusty. My biggest fear is just inadvertently getting the crap kicked out of me in the water. There's a picture of a tri-swim in this month's M&F Hers mag and it's just a blur of arms, legs and goggles. That freaks me out.

Biking - I think I'll be ok there. I've never ridden for speed, but I did do the AIDSRide in 02. That was 350 miles from NY to Boston. 12.5 doesn't seem so bad.

Running - I put myself in road races, but I'm no runner. Haven't trained enough in the past. Basically just a 10 minute miler.

So that's my story...tips (especially water related) welcome! So glad I found this site...have learned so much already!

Happy Training!
Kimberly

Welcome. I'm still lurkin after 3+ months . Depending on how they start your swim (waves, etc) it may not be as bad as you think. Stay to the outside or the back of the swim start will reduce the amount of "ladder climbers" trying to get through you in the water. Good luck

Welcome!  Well good for you taking the plunge!  I agree with the above - if you start towards the back and side of the swim group, you'll be pretty much out of the way of wild hands and feet!

Good luck!
