I'm new to all of this but so far in my training I can run a fairly consistent 3 mile distance. For full disclosure I have to admit that the running segment is the discipline that I have kept up with the least.

Is it too agressive to think that I can pull off the 10k turkey trot on the 23rd? I don't want to injure myself when I'm just starting off down the tri path.

Nope....I think you'll do just fine for the 10K.  Just have maybe a 3, 5, then 6 mile training run between now and then, and *presto*, you're trained.  I wouldn't go toooo hard, unless your body agrees with it...just maintain a comfortable pace, walk if you need to, and you'll be a-o-k.

Like he said, you can definitely do it! The Turkey Trot is a great 10K to start off with (besides the COLD) because the parade watchers are lined up, so there are a lot of people cheering people on. The only discouraging thing is that it is an out-and-back course, so when you feel like you've barely started, you can see the people who are almost finished. That's a little annoying! But I really love the Turkey Trot and do it every year. I am also glad to see they've added a 5K this year so more people can do it.

Did anyone else do the Turkey Trot?

I did it with my sister.   I was NOT surprised that race started late.  Certainly was a wonderful morning though, and the runners and spectators festitive!

Did anyone else think it was weird that the LONE aid station was postitioned on a tight turn?  Heavy running traffic!

I ended up just doing a 5k near my house in Canton. Smaller event. Less intimidating for a first race.

My dad and I did the 5k stuffing strut. I was amazed at how many people there were. It was a fun time.

I did the 10k with my training buddy from Chicago. He was in town for the Holiday. His sister-in-law and uncle ran the 5k.
