Subject: Hello! I guess this makes it official... I'm ready to begin turning what has become a dream into a reality. At some point this summer, without me realizing it, my heart and brain got together and decided that I was going to become a triathlete.
A little about me:
37 y.o.
6'2"
183 lbs (fluctuates up & down 3 lbs or so )
married w/2 daughters (6 and 3 )
ex-collegiate baseball player (pitcher )
swim capably, but nothing even close to competitive yet. Basically starting from zero.
biking capably, but again starting from zero essentially. Old Soma extra-tall 10 speed. Gotta get a new one.
running - now this I've been doing! see below...
I've kept in respectable but not great shape up until this year, when a coworker asked me to join him in running our employer's 5k in May (my first ever ). I trained a bit, not real well, and raced in what I now view as a pretty poor 24:55. I have since been running with my alma mater's high school cross-country team and have made some pretty significant improvements. I'm learning all the time, and I look forward to testing my 5k ability again later this month or next. Really hoping for something in the 22s or lower.
Anyway, that's my background. I feel extremely excited and, well, rejuvenated, to have this personal challenge lying before me. After a cursory look at this site it appears to be what I was looking for...a place to learn and a community to share experiences with. I've got a workout journal at another site that I may be able to ship over to here, we'll see. I look forward to interacting with everyone out here. |
