Or, in response to Rick's post, and if demand from all areas is there, we create regions.  So, Rick, based on current thread participation, you would already be crowned mid-atlantic champion!  Just kidding, but see my point?

Rick is right on the money with the rain/snow/wind/etc.  I'm almost thinking along the lines of K.I.S.S that it just goes by temperature?  Everything else is somewhat subjective.  I know there's some flaws (this AM it was 41 and a biting wind...way less comfortable than runs I've done at 25 and calm).  But, what'r'we gonna do.  If we like the concept, we've gotta figure out an easy way.

Again, not arguing, no ego involved if it's decided to go in a different direction.  I'm just trying to keep the ideas moving as I like the concept.

In the same way that you made it seem sane for me to start running all winter and in all kind of other terrible weather, it is irrelevant who 'wins' here.  Instead for folks to see what others are training in, there will be an appreciation and maybe a feeling of camraderie that makes training in everything seem 'normal'.  Kind of a support group for those that want to train outside all winter.

First post:

I was thinking of a point system for weather under x degrees (maybe a scale for lower you go), rain, snow, sleet, brimstone, etc.

Last Post:

Maybe we can give folks the weekly crown of worst workout of the week or something.

OK, I think the idea morphed a bit, and I'm fine with that either way.  A fun thread with shattiest weather of the week would certainly be fun as well.  Given that, it could almost be a tri-talk thread started weekly like "who's racing".

Either of the above ideas would probably crowbar me outta bed once or twice when I considered skipping, so I'm game.

However this plays out, I am in.....and I am no where near the level of most of you guys. I can run down pretty low, but I am a wimp on the bike. I have done just below 30, and my toes just don't like it....However, if its a competition, who knows????

I personally liked Morey's idea above about 32/40, run/bike. I know it leaves some people out, but maybe we can figure out something to settle it?? Let me think over the weekend.

Well, this will seem pretty tame come Jan and Feb, but this morning I did 30 mi on the bike in 28 degrees with 23 mph winds before/during sunrise.  Locals will know what I mean when I say that a lot of this was in Bull Valley just to add to the fun.  I was disappointed there was no snow as I was all keyed, and geared, up for that when I went to bed.  Oh well.

If we can figure it out count me in. Being in Michigan will get plenty of cold nasty runs in.

I had this thought on Saturday during my ride.  Wonder if I could wear my wetsuit on really cold bike rides?  Hmmmm.

Yep, no problem.  Your wetsuit will keep you warmer on the bike.  Just be sure to wear the goggles also or the whole outfit will look silly.

I'd like to join this challenge as well. It gets ridiculously cold up here starting... last week, and it lasts through until April. My two months I'm planning to spend in Australia will go the other direction - too hot to train (yikes!). ha ha ha

On Saturday I ran just about 5 mi in 20F (I will try to convert to join the majority). It was chilly!

I can't bike in the winter up here, too much ice and gravel on the roads, it is way too dangerous. Only runs for me.

I like the idea of posting pictures too, icicles on your eyelashes, etc.

Hi all. I'd like to be in on this...I had some good cold weather running last winter here in Vermont.

Just throwing out an idea--what about basing it the average temp of the closest city listed on something like weather.com or another weather data site? One can accumulate points for training in weather below the avg. and just let it ride on the days that it is above.

Otherwise, I'm in whatever the method (and whatever the weather)

Quick update folks- I am working on getting something set up and it will likely deal with the "Suck Coefficient"- a formula that will score the level of suckitude of each workout times the workout time to come up with a point value.  Cheesy?  Yes.  Effective?  We shall see.  I like a lot of the thoughts on posting post workout pics and what not, maybe a cr@ppy workout of the week award.  I hope to get to this tonight or tomorrow so we can get er rollin'!!  I was kind of upset this wasnt ready to go this weekend with 2 hours 15 run in 27 degrees.  Boo!

my 2cents... there should be a temp cutoff, say around 30-39degrees.  Anything above that is not really "crummy weather"

I like the idea of a multiplier of duration of exercise (outside) X points on a sliding scale which increases and temperature decreases.
