Extreme Veteran 572 Seattle, WA | Subject: Finally my official "hello" To all my BT-ers, Ok, I figured after several weeks on this site, it's finally time for people to get to know me. Now that I finally have some decent amount of free time...tonight's the night!!! So, I'll get a few of the specifics out of the way: Name: Jasmine...aka Jazzy...aka Spazzy, the list goes on--feel free to make up your own Age: 23 Height: 5'8" Weight: somewhere between 128 and 135, depending on how much I ate that day!!! :-) Location: Seattle, WA...but originally from the northern suburbs of Los Angeles Job: Graduate student in Atmospheric Sciences Tri experience: 3 sprints when I was 15...nothing since Ok, so those are the logistics. Now the fun stuff. So I've been pretty active my whole life. I've played soccer since I was 5, ran cross-country and track all 4 years of HS (800 specialist...nasty race!!). I tore my ACL a year and a half ago during a soccer match and decided it may be time to say good-bye to my sport. I sat around for almost a year after my rehab was complete and lost 5-10 lbs of muscle and gained it back as fat. I was deciding what to do to get back into shape when my mom mentioned competing in this year's Reebok Women's Triathlon Series in Seattle. She had competed in the same event last year in honor of her cousin who passed away from ovarian cancer. This series is similar to the Danskin, but raises money for ovarian cancer. She couldn't compete this year, so I promised that I would compete. I joined a group of women that promised to raise $500 for ovarian cancer research. So far I've raised $1000 (some BT-ers have even helped out!) and thus far us tri-ers have raised over $74,000!!! The problem is that I have the bug now!!! I'm so bummed that I am competing at the end of the season (Sept 12), but can't wait to join the Master's swim team over the winter to help my underdeveloped stroke, build up my biking distance, and compete in several 5 and 10K's to get my speed back up to what it was long ago. My goal next year is to be rather competitive in an olympic race...hopefully getting up on the age group podium. Doable? We'll see!!! I have high goals and I am super competitive...I HATE to lose!!!! I love this website so much. Hearing what everyone is doing that day is so inspiring, and the training log keeps me honest!!! I already received a few "inspiration" comments...which means people are keeping track of me and I'd better do what I said I would do! I have asked a few questions already and answered a few. But I just wanted to finally write a formal introduction. Thanks for all of the support thus far and I can't wait to report on my Tri this September!!! Best wishes and happy training!!! |

Veteran 540 Philadelphia, PA | Subject: RE: Finally my official "hello" Welcome Jasmine, I almost felt like I was reading about myself for a second. Played soccer from 3 up until my jr. year at a Div I school. Also ran track w/ the 400 as my race. Have torn both left and right ACL's playing soccer. After finally letting go of soccer, I turned to running and now triing, and i am bummed as well b/c i separated my shoulder and have ended my season I have visitied your site. Interesting career choice and nice bike. ( yes, this engineer spends too much time surfing online) Great job raising all that $$ ( Stephanie's still ahead of ya) and good luck in the race. John |

Extreme Veteran 572 Seattle, WA | Subject: RE: Finally my official "hello" Thanks for all the "hello"'s. John, aren't ligaments a big ol' pain? Especially when they tear!!! I know, Stephanie is still ahead, but it's ok (she says with underlying desire to beat her!). |

Expert 1279 Northern VA | Subject: RE: Finally my official "hello" Thanks Jaz In addition to the guilt workouts, now I'm probably gonna be guilted into officially introducing myself, since I never did it either. (I think there is a statute of limitations though - I've been on here since April). So your officially welcomed by an unofficial. Keep up the guilt!!!! Good luck / Gary |

Member 66 Connecticut | Subject: RE: Finally my official "hello" HEY! congrats on your new bike and all the money you've raised! I definitely think a podium finish is doable for your first race...I did my first tri in June and finished 3rd for my age group (not too much competition - small race, small field) and was TOTALLY surprised...good luck to you! See you out there! |

Great cause you're working for as well. If you want to do another "tri for a cause," check out Team In Training. Great organization, great support, great cause as well. |

Extreme Veteran 572 Seattle, WA | Subject: RE: Finally my official "hello" Gary -- don't worry, I'll bring on the guilt!!! Had a dose of it this morning...only reason I finished my workout despite sore arches, rain, and holes being rubbed into the back of my ankles by my new running shoes!!! Bear -- Thanks! I'm glad I can add my 2 cents (sometime it's only worth a half pence, however) to this group. I'll check out Team in Training, sounds great. I'm volunteering next weekend at the Seattle Danskin, so that should be interesting...especially my wakeup time!!! It is always easier to push myself when I'm working for a cause. I think of all the people who are supporting me, and the women I am supporting with the money I am raising and I just CAN'T give up...no matter how much I want to! |

Master 1558 Pensacola, Fl | Subject: RE: Finally my official "hello" Kinda ironic to be saying welcome to someone who has more posts than I, but welcome officially. Good-luck in your Tri. Having a "cause" definitely gives you that extra push and I have found the events to be more enjoyable as well (I have done numerous Team in Training events). Thanks for being active in the posts as well. I am new here as well and just like others look to the BT'ers for guidance in my new adventures and some of your posts have been very helpful!! Thanks and keep training hard!!! Lane |

Veteran 221 Washington | Subject: RE: Finally my official "hello" Welcome Jasmine! I think it's wonderful that you are doing a "tri for a cause". It's a cause that is very dear to my heart, lost my grandmother to it after a 4 year battle. Maybe next year I'll plan a trip to Seattle and compete in it as well. If you'll drop me a PM, I would love to add to your fundraising pool! Good luck in training and with your race! |

Central Louisiana | Subject: RE: Finally my official "hello" Just to let you know, sometimes because of time constraints, we do this because we want to let people know that we did see they introduced themselves. On occasion it is easier to paste the same thing when you are holding a two month old. |
