So I picked up a set of once used zipp 606 clinchers and I feel incredibly stupid for asking these questions.

1) There is air in the tires that were given to me with the bike and the valves have valve extensions on them.  I want to change the tires. Usually to get the air out of the tire I just press on the valve let the air out and take off the tire.  How do I let the air out with valve extensions?

2) In a race if you flat with a pair of deep rimmed race wheels the new tube that you put on obviously has to have valve extenders on it as well.  Do you just buy a few extra extenders and keep them on your tubes or take it off your flat and put it on the new tube?

Can't wait to give these wheels a spin.  They look fast!

Bump.....

I had the same questions when I first bought my Zipp 404s.

1). I was able to stick a straightened wire hanger down the valve extender to release some pressure on one of the wheels (recommended by LBS). On my other wheel, this is not working. Any recommendations???

2). To change the tube, I had to buy some plumbers tape to cover the threaded portion of the new tubes valve so that when the valve extender is screwed on it is air-tight. You can either have extra valve extenders already put together on your spare tube with the plumbers tape, or just have the plumbers tape on the valve (swap the valve extender on the new tube).

I have Zipp 404s. I've been Unscrewing the presta valve, putting on the Extender, pumping up the tire then taking the extender off and closing the presta valve and putting the extender back on.

D'oh, I am an idiot!

ve extender to release some pressure on one of the wheels (recommended by LBS). On my other wheel, this is not working. Any recommendations???

From my experience, this happens when the stem valve screws itself closed through road vibration.  This happened to me once.  I unscrewed the valve extender and was able to get in with some tweezers to pinch the valve and unscrew it.

When you get it fixed and redo the extender, make sure that the valve is twisted open to the point where it's just past the end of the thread and won't twist closed again.
