Anybody else doing these this winter? They're with the Pagoda runners in Reading.

I'm hopefully going to at least do the December one. But I am doubtful for Jan (work holiday party the night before).

If you're interested in an interesting race for January.....Look at www.pretzelcitysports.com, and check out The Chilly Cheeks.

It depends if I can get a day off work or if I find a new job that I don't work weekends.

Hey Scout...I'm going to do both the Chilly Cheeks and the Ugly Mudder. Treating the races as brutal fun

Brutal is a good description.

lmao at the chilly cheeks description: "a race that will stick in your mind like the first time that you saw your Grandma in her yellow, dingy slip". Nice imagery.

I'm doing the December 5K race on Sunday. Hope to see you there. I'll be the one doing 11 minute miles.

Kettlebell - are you in the UMLY Y class that does kettlebells on wednesday nights?

This race series is a lot of fun. I did all four of them a couple years ago. Bring $10 to the first race to pick up a t-shirt. The designs are usually pretty funny. Besides, they have the best post race food I have ever seen at any race, let alone a $5 race. Also, if you make it to 3 of the 4 races, you get free entry to the post series party where they have lots of food and beer and they present the awards for the series. Not sure how many I'll be able to make this year, but the December one usually has the biggest turnout. Oh, and a little parking tip for you - don't park in the park where the start line is. Park in the big tree filled lot across the street. You can get out a lot quicker

I've also signed up for the Ugly Mudder in Feb. I fully expect to be trashed by this course and will be disappointed if I can drive myself home

HOLY CRAP!! I didn't know they had that class! I haven't joined yet. But you can bet I'll be there on Wednesday nights. I'm stopping by tonite to pick up a financial assistance application. I'm poor and can't afford the membership. But I hope that changes, I have an interview with Enterprise next week Thanks for letting me now. I'm definitely gonna get in on that.

The last time I ran any of the Shivers was.........94. I grew up just outside of Reading (Wyomissing Hills to be precise), and they were great races back then.

As for the Pretzel City races......I did the Ugly Mudder, Double Trouble, Half-Wit, Evansburg 10 miler, and (most recently) the Dirty Bird. They are all GREAT races, and a lot of fun. I will say, though, that they NEVER start even remotely on time. I think Ron (the RD) does a great job of organizing races that lets anyone of any ability enjoy it. If you want to race, you can. If you want to just have fun, most definitely!

Oh, and if you haven't done the UM.....heh. Let me give a word of warning now: Save some for the very end. You'll need it.

For anyone who's doing the Shivers or the Cheeks or Mudder, we need to figure out how to all meet up!

I would love that. I will be coming with some my friends, most likely my new very close special friend and his brother and maybe some others. MtnChick13 mentioned doing one of the races too. I'm just interested in having some seriously brutal fun ;-)

That's cool. Depending on the race, I may have coworkers, my wife, or just myself.

http://pagodapacers.com/- and go to the "Race Applications" link.

The dates for the '06-'07 "shivers" are 12/10, 1/7, 2/4 and 3/4.

I see that class sometimes when I'm there on wednesdays but I don't see it on the schedule. They do a bunch of masochistic strength exercises, including kettlebells. A rugby player should dig it. All those head injuries I suppose.

Alright, people, it's now Friday. Who all thinks they're gonna be at the race on Sunday, and should we figure out some way to all meet up?

I'm pretty sure I'm going.

I'm going to be there, I'll wear a red bandana if you care to say hi. I'll be the fat, slow one in the red bandana lol. Somewhere in the rearview. But hey, it's the best place to get a rearview wink wink nudge nudge.

Alright, everyone, the second one is this weekend.  I am, unfortunately, doubtful for Sunday, mostly because I've been fighting this head/chest congestion thing for a week now, and I won't be anywhere near up to race form.
