Subject: At home strength training

Hello all.  I really need to start doing some weight training and I was wondering if any of you had any tips for me.  I do not belong to a gym, so all of my training is done from home.  I do have a set of free weights (dumbbells) so I can do upper body stuff ok, but what about lower body?  Should I just stick to squats and lunges?

TIA.

Tall box climb is good, if you have a step available. I use the FIRM, and that (along w/ leg lifts) are 2 of their big lower body moves.

I also do calf raises.

You might count straight leg dead lifts as a lower body exercise since it mainly works the glutes.

To work the quads, I do an exercise I call the the lay back.  You kneel and then just lean back from the knees with back and hips straight.  I go back a bit past 45 degrees.  You can as far as you are comfortable.   It is a strain on the knee joint so it might not be the best for you.

At home exercises: pullups (buy a bar that goes in the doorframe), dips (use a chair, or two), pushups (you can put your hands closer together to work your triceps better), lunges, sinlg-leg squats, step-ups, etc.

Google "Body Weight Exercises" there is lots on information on the interwebs.
