Great site! Just thought I would introduce myself to the forum. Last month, as a result of an spontaneous act of Ebay hubris, I ended up with a old tri/road bike. Never thought my bid would have taken, but it did. On the other hand, for $150 what was the damage? Suddenly, I was faced with a "what now?" issue. Ski patrolling is one thing, surfing is one thing, mountain biking was one thing... so I decided in the interest of ecomomy of effort and time, I would try triathlon. And what a positive decision that ended up being. Now I combine my love of water, cycling, and running, and a competitive nature into training with a purpose.

To weeks after that fateful Ebay purchase I entered my first triathlon. What a great experience! 94th/202 and 4th in my age group (old man class) If my own inexperience in the T1 and T2 hadn't been so glaring, I would have finished 3rd.

It is great to be involved in such a great sport; the espirit de corps of the individuals that have continued to assist me locally is tremendous. And I am looking forward to competing for many years to come.

Good luck to everyone in reaching their own triathlon goals.

Well thanks. But is was not as impressive as it sounded. I rode a lot before on my mountain bike, so the cycling was an easy think to pick up. It was the swimming part that I was the weakest on. A stone, even with great technique is still a stone. But what I thought would take me 30 minutes, I did in 18, even if at one point I was 35 yards off course. All I could do was laugh and keep the arms moving.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

Oh the bike is great story. It wasn't really a TRI bike in the design sense, but rather an early 90's Centurion, that Scott Tingey slapped his name and said, voila! RUN BIKE magically turns itself into a triathlon bike. It may be old, but she flys!

That's awesome. Your introduction included your first race report. I've been out here over 2 months and don't have a race for another 2 weeks. I wish you continued success.
