The bike shipping thread got me thinking about getting my precious P3C over to Switzerland in one piece.  So far I'm looking at the Velosafe Pro Series Original: http://www.triall3sports.com/bike.html and the SunLite: http://spoke-n-sport.com/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=39&id=2660

What do you all recommend?

Hey Mike,
I don't own either.  I own, and have used a Trico IronCase for years and like it very much.  Has kept my Carbon Fiber bikes free from damage.

I do however have a friend who I've traveled with who uses a VeloSafe Pro.  I must say this is one nice set up.  Less tear-down and more room is a plus.  He's traveled over seas with it several times without a problem.

Are you a USAT member?  There's a like 10% discount for the tri all 3 sports one if you're a member.  That one seems to be popular...

I'll find the reference, but if you become a member of USA Cycling or another club I can't remember, you get a voucher to fly free the bike box free on certain airlines.  I'll PM you if I can find it.  Might be of use.

The other thing is...determine your airline, and the dimensions they'll accept.  I think the velosafe is over the 'standard' dimensions, which will end up 1) costing you a boatload, or 2) the airline refusing to carry it.  No matter where you end up, call the airline in question to determine how they'll handle it.

As far as the box, velosafe seems to be the premier brand (from my research, no prev experience) in terms of keeping bikes safe.  Trico seems to make the 2nd most popular - again, with a 100% safe track record, and there are a bunch of 3rd choices that, from what I can tell, all seem to keep your bike safe.  Most damage seems to be done from opening and repacking the case improperly.

I saw this on E-Bay and thought you might like to take a look at it.
