Looks like my Monday run is now going to be at 8:30 as my running partner can't go until then, how about Thursday night at 9 pm CST?

Bump!

What's going on?  How is everyone?  I was on vacation last week so I'm still getting caught up, but do we have any chat time planned?  I am free tonight and Friday night from 7pm-11pm EST.

OK, I am just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I am doing my first ever organized bike ride on Saturday and was convinced (by some other BT folks) to sign up for the 64 mile distance. The farthest I have ever gone on my bike is 35 miles. My husband and I did a brick last weekend and rode 31 and ran 5 and I felt fine, so I am hoping I can manage 64 miles. I am only going for about a 14mph pace so I am definitely not in it for speed. I know we have some hard core bikers in our group, any advice for my first "long" ride?

Just go with it.  I'm not a hard core biker but I think you'll do fine.  Just make sure to get the calories in and have fun.  Just keep doing it the same as your 35 miles and you'll be done in no time!

You can totally do this!!  I was pleasantly surprised on my first long ride that there are some stops where you can rest for a few minutes.  For me, that makes all the difference.  Just pace yourself and try to to scorch your quads during the first 40 miles.  Save some for the end!  Then make sure you stretch a lot after and hydrate well throughout your ride.

Good luck!  Let us know how it goes!

You will do great, Jill.

Peanut butter and banana sandwiches are great road foods. Every now and then unclip from a pedal and stretch your legs out straight. Or, just stand up on your pedals and coast a little. Since your longest ride was 35, you may want to get off the bike for a few minutes around that time, pee, walk around a bit, eat something and then get back on.

Have a blast. Longer rides are really fun. Enjoy it.

hey everyone, sorry i have been a slacker mentor the last couple weeks.

long rides...if you've done 35, and pace on the easy side, i bet you'll surprise yourself. get the calories in, electrolytes, and water (but also don't overdo it with any of the above). if you can take breaks now and then, that's awesome. take that time to stretch a little, massage your muscles, and take in calories and water/drink. of course, here are my two big recommendations: bullfrog gel sunscreen & CHAMOIS BUTTER! cover all your skin in sun block, and smear your girl bits and the inside of the chamois of your shorts with a generous portion of chamois butter. bring some along in case you go to the bathroom, so you can add more.

have an AWESOME TIME!!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will definitely make use of all the advice and let you know how it goes. I just picked up my race packet and I am getting excited, well if I only had time to get excited! I am in charge of a kid's area at a local festival this evening and then after the ride tomorrow, we are headed straight out of town to go pick up our new puppy. Dang life is busy!

As for my bike ride on Saturday, it was great but I ended up only doing the 32 mile distance. I was biking with some other BT folks and one had a flat a few miles in, then another had some chain issues, then we had a delay as one man had cardiac arrest after the first big hill on the ride. When we came up on him, he was flat on the ground not breathing. The word is that a nurse who was doing the ride administered CPR and saved his life. Needless to say that was a bit unnerving on my first ever organized bike ride outside of a triathlon. Anyhow, I ran out of time as my husband and the kids were waiting on me to go pick up our new puppy (which turned into 2 puppies, yes I am a complete glutton for punishment!!!) My daughter who is 8 rode 20 miles on her own bike and there were quite a few hills. I was amazed! My husband towed our 5 year old on the trail a bike and then attached the burley to the trail a bike with our 16 month old son. He only went 20 miles as well, but with the wagon train behind him I think that counts almost double.

Now I am gearing up for my next race on April 22nd. It will be my first Oly and I am a bit nervous. Yesterday when I had my workout with my trainer she asked me if I was doing intervals. I said "No, not really", her response was a rather harsh "Why not?!?!?!?!" I guess I need to work on that. We worked on legs again for 45 minutes straight and hard. I was spent after that and a spin class.

Good luck everyone with your workouts!
