Sure, I say welcome!

Does anybody have any advice about heart rate monitors?  I'm thinking about getting one, but there are so many choices, I don't know where to start.

Bring her on in (especially if she has lots of minutes).

Have a great Friday and an excellent weekend everyone. I have my 2nd to last swim lesson on Saturday. I'm hoping to get in a nice run this afternoon, I wanted to go outside, but it's cold as the dickens, so maybe not. Might find myself a nice cozy spot on a treadmill with a TV.

I got a job!!!  Yay!  I start on Tuesday.  I've been looking for a job for over 6 months now.  Finally!!  I'll be an adoption counselor.

The only downside is my minutes may suffer a little.

i'll ask around about the heart monitor a few of my friends here use them, i'm looking for a reliable one that you just need on your wrist, no chest strap, for my mom.  so i will get back to you on that.

congrats on the job...so exciting and what rewarding work, giving kids a loving home!

but that puts everyone else on alert here that you could close in on karen for the MVP $10 gift card, HA HA

end kristen you beat me to veteran status, i think this makes my 100th

kmann - Congrats on the job!!!! I'm so happy for you. Also, I use a low-end Polar HRM - an F4 I think - it was $75 at Target, but it does all I need it to. It is a chest strap/wrist combo, but (I think) since it's Polar it talks to all of the gym equipment for me.

mosc11 - Whoo whoo! You're a veteran now too!

lperdue - Hope you're feeling better. Take it easy coming back into the minutes. (I never do this myself and always end up sick again.)

autigers & everyone - Have a great weekend!!!

(Sorry - I know y'all have real names, but when I think about you, I think in screen name. That is so terrible, isn't it. But don't feel bad - occasionally when I do a lot of e-mailing to my hubby, I start to think of him by his screen name. HAHA!)

hey everybody!  hope you are all doing well!  it has been crazy bust here so sorry for the lack of inspires and notes here on the thread.

just wanted you all to know that on march 10th, i am organizing a talk given by  an ironman florida finisher.  she is a police officer with my husband and is speaking to a group of family and friends that will be completing their first tri this september.  ( i guess you could call them my local mentor group)  anyway i was just wondering if you had any questions you would like to ask her, i could then post then\ answers here.  sorry i am not high tech enough to offer a a web cast or something, i can't even figure out how to create links to your training logs!  it was just a thought, she is a great resource and competes in over 7 tris a season, has sponsors and everything.  (the funny thing is that my husband didn't tell me all of this until AFTER my first tri....men)

only a little over a week left in the challenge so if you haven't posted all your minutes yet, lets get on that.  consistency has been the key here ladies so lets keep up the GREAT work.

re: the ironman talk - if we wanna videotape it, jorge knows how to publish video to the web - could be helpful for those doing the tri who are out of the area (like jannie, janet, et al) just run it by maggie first and see how she feels...

and re links to your mentees: i bet if you ask jenbunn1e, she'll set up a table for you, that's how i got mine.

and re the challenge: its gonna go down to the wire i think, you guys have been great competition and many of my group say if it weren't for this challenge, they'd have been slugs this winter, so THANKS!

Hey ladies -

I'm having a bit of a setback - I think the step-aerobics I did on Monday when my kidlets were sick strained my calf...so I'm going to take a day off to rest it. I swam & biked yesterday, but it's still sore today even without running. Keep up the excellent work - I'm hoping to have a strong finish to this otherwise crummy week. :-)

i was so glad not to find our little thread on page 3, i'm so weird about that.  anyway looks like we will be having a tough finish to our challenge with injuries and new jobs and the like.  hope everyone is feeling better and taking care of themselves.  we are in the final stretch here (can we log that? j.k) and i must say that the consistency of this group has been inspiring.  the first two weeks we topped out at over 2500 minutes and then last week it was around 2200 but i'm not sure i have all the correct minutes there, could be more.  keep up the good work, all of you are phenomenal!  log your times as promptly as possible so that as of 3/1 we can know if we can do a (virtual) victory lap!

Working is hard!  How do ya'll do it?  I came home from the first two days of work comepletely drained.  Then yesterday and this morning I was at a conference.  But I did get in a little bit of a run/walk yesterday around the golf course at the resort.  It was gorgeous!  Anyway, I'm afraid I won't be getting quite my usual amount of minutes this week.  But knowing the challenge is still on has helped me at least do something instead of collapsing onto the couch.  Hopefully, once I get into a routine I can be more consistent and have more energy at the end of the day.

I did it! I did it! I'm in - I plunked down the money and I'm now officially registered for my first triathlon. I'm SOOOOO excited (and more than a little nervous).

March 24 - 300 m pool swim, 10 mile bike, 5K run - about an hour from home.

YEAH YEAH YEAH!

I waivered about registering as an Athena (150+ pounds) or as a regular age-grouper, but I went ahead and did AG...I'm not expecting an award in any category, but I figure if I tell myself I'm not an Athena, then maybe I'll lose those last ~5 pounds to get below 150.

Karen - I hear you...it's tough to train on top of working, but you'll figure it out. Especially with the big life shift right now, I'm sure it's exhausting and exciting and everything else, but it will all fall into place. Every year I have the same problem - I'm a college professor, so in the summer, my life is kind of like not working (I mean, I have "important" stuff to do, but the pace is more leisurely and I'm on my own schedule), but then fall comes and I have to get back into the groove and get my kids back into the groove and it is TIRING! Hang in there, you'll come over the mountain soon (if you haven't already).

Good luck to all! Finish strong & thanks, Carol, for kicking me up a notch with this challenge. I may not be close to the highest in minutes, but I definitely worked harder than I expected to this month!

Kristen

CONGRATULATIONS on registering for your FIRST tri!  i see many more in your future.  you will do so great and rock them in the water.

i myself am struggling with the whole balancing work, life and training.  when i did my first tri last summer i wasn't employed outside the home and my bosses were 3 years old and 8 months!

you all have done so wonderful!  that other person never contacted me to join our group so it will just be an average of the minutes.  lets finish strong and definitely proud!

one more thing....we have a total of 9345 minutes for the month (plus a little more probably because people may not have logged for the 27th yet) if we each did at least 108 minutes for the final day, we would have 10,000 minutes...that would be so cool...just a thought

welcome to MARCH!  the challenge is officially over and you all must join me in an after challenge stretch.  raise you right arm directly over you head , then bend at the elbow, find a nice spot on your back and start patting!  you all did an amazing job.  got moving and stayed moving!

Mindy...you posted minutes 25 out of 28 days not to mention figuring out your stroke and improving your swim!

Kristen...you had minutes posted 26 out of 28 days became confidant in the water, no more "swim like a rock" and registered for your first tri!

Brenda...21 days of minutes for you which included 8 hours on the bike trainer.  guess you will need to go back to your original post and cross off "i just die on the bike"

Lachele...22 minute filled days and doubling your run time from january and you may also cross off your nervous about swimming comment!

Karen...27 days of minutes and new job to boot! you even took your hurt leg out for a run.  you were our MVP with 2680 minutes!

i don't know as of now how we did on the challenge but seriously after all those wonderful highlights does it matter?  i will post the final spreadsheet and i want you all to print it out and put it on you refrigerators with a GOLD STAR!
