my3sons - 2007-04-02 9:20 PM Well, I haven't posted in a while since you people freaked me out with how much you are working out and how far you go. But I have really been consistent in my workouts and I am amazed at my improvement. I am doing one of the training plans from BT and it is doing wonders. I can swim 1250 yds without a rest, bike 17 miles and enjoyed it and my confidence is getting so much better. Not to mention, I am losing about a pound a week now. I don't walk up hills on my bike anymore and I am really getting to know my gears. I look forward to my workouts and have to hold back from not doing too much or not taking a rest day. Anyway, I thougth I would share. I am not in your competition yet on the forum, but give me one more season!

Carrie,

First off, your avatar rocks!  Looking great.  The only competition that matter is against yourself.  Never forget that it's about getting out there.  If it's a 2 mile or a 20 mile run, it takes the same will power to get out the door.  So I know you're awesome.  And keep enjoying it.

Please keep sharing, we love to revel in each others successes.  Did I ever get back to you on your training plan question?  If I didn't, sorry.  Send it again.

triOK - 2007-04-03 9:54 AM Hey Dan... I have a question for you.  Do you do, or know anyone who does crash training?  Maybe amiine?  My race is coming up, and I am feeling slow.  Thoughts?

Yeah, I am familiar with it and can develop a plan for you if you want.  Which race and how long do you have?

For those of you who are curious a Crash Plan is designed for a person who maintains their health and remains fit throughout the year.  It's basically a jump start that is only recommended if you are in reasonable shape.  Definetly not a couch to crash plan.

Dan, thanks for the encouragement. It helps a lot. As for the training plan question, I just wanted you to look over my plan to see if looks good and doable. I am really enjoying it so far and I am on my 3rd week...I think.

Anyway, any advice or suggestions you have are very welcomed!

Oly on the 22nd, but I have a marathon (not an A-race by any means) the following weekend.  It might be a little late to crash train, but I read about it and wanted to see if you were familiar.  Any ideas you have to make me fast would be appreciated.

hey Dan:

FYI - Bike course this weekend... see you Friday! We're on for Dinner w/ Jen

RE: 3Sports Long Course Duathlon 2007- Richmond, V Reply

The course is actuall 36 miles. The stick is 10 and the loop is 16. The first part of the loop is fast but save yourself for the back half. One good, but short, climb then a series of gradual hills that can take your legs off if you go out to hard.
Good Luck,

From Du discussion board.

Michelle

PS: 3" of snow and 16 degrees w/ wind chill this AM - doing my riding inside today!

Back from Tahoe. Great time skiing. Finally feel like I am beginning to "get it". Balance was much better and carried much more speed than usual. Turning was a lot easier too, but maybe that was because I rented shaped skis instead of my old straight sticks. Or maybe it was last time I weighed 260 pounds and this time 185. Or maybe it was training for 4 marathons and 2 tri's since last time I skied. Whatever, it was much more fun this time around.

Will try to catch up on my log after tomorrow's long run.

Carrie, great work on your training. I don't think I can swim 1250 yards without resting yet.

And great work on the bike. You are doing really well. And congrats on the weight loss.

Cash,

I'm glad you made it back in one piece!  Isn't it great when you can see the difference an active lifestyle makes in all aspects of your life.  I'm sure those slopes were so much more fun this time around.

I just wanted to share with everyone that I qualified for Team USA Duathlon Long Course this Saturday.  It was my first Duathlon and I surprised myself.  It was a very hard race and in tough conditions.  3" of snow on the ground at the start.

And even better, Nancy 'unoffically' got offered her job in Atlanta.  So it was a good weekend for the Dancy clan.

How was everyone's Weekend?

Dan - that is outstanding news about Nancy, oh and your little performance at the du isn't too bad either

To reach that kind of an accomplishment so early in the season, what a great way to start the year!  Congratulations, your results in your first two races are a reflection of your hard work ethic.

Dan - when you race do you wear a HR monitor?  I'm curious to hear what zone(s) you hit during a race.

As I've been training on the bike I've been thinking about what zone I should be in during a race.  I don't know if it is too early to be thinking about a race strategy, but I'm wondering what kind of effort I need to put out to maximize my speed on the bike but still leave enough in the tank for the run.  It seems like a delicate balance the more I think about it.

Hi all!

Here's the results page - even with the tough conditions there are some fast times!!

I was very excited - my first long course placed 12th overall and 3rd in age 40-44 age group- alternate for worlds spot - going to get it at the next one I know there will be no snow in Mansfield - (I hope)

http://www.setupevents.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=event_detail&eventI...

I know I need more bike time!! Very happy with my runs - even with running long on the 2nd loop - will have all details in race report!

M

M cole - used my hrt monitor - only computer thing that did not fail - I'll post -in my zones throughout - hit bike close to LT then settled in - 1st run was = to my racing run times - 2nd run feet were sooo numb - took 3 miles before i knew i had feet again!

Hey Dan, congratulations on your Duathlon. I knew you would do well even with the snow. I always look forward to your race report.

Up here its still somewhat cold to ride. Our Tri Club held an indoor training session to the Hardcore 100 DVD which is 5 1/2 hours attempting a 100 mile ride. Out of 15 starters, 5 finished. It was a good workout and some of the finishers surprised me. We felt like we did a race the next day.

My Grandson was on my computer and had me logged in as Stetkon. He is doing a Tri a Tri so have been taking him out for some training. Its good fun, he's only 11 and its fun to see him swim.

The earlier post is actually from me.

He Michelle, awesome, you may get in anyway, not everyone takes their spot. Where are the "Worlds" being held?

Okay, I didn't have a very productive weekend. With 3 sick kids and a sick husband, I wasn't very intentional with my workouts. But, the weather is beautiful today and I am going on a hour long bike ride through some beautiful country side. I am looking forward to it.

Congrates Dan on qualifying!!

My husband is running his A race (1/2 marathon) this weekend. He has a set a fast pace for himself and just coming over a cold, so it should be a challenge. I proud of him though. He was the one that got me started with tri's.

Dan, is it ok to hate you for 30 seconds? First attempt at something and you make the US national team.

Ok I like you again.

Carrie, good luck to your husband on his "A" race.

Michelle, congrats, on a very fine effort.

It's ok to hate me.  The people that really hate me are the ones that travel from Du to Du trying to qualify and have us 'rookies' take their slot.  I had someone tell me that after the race when I said this was my first one.

Carrie, way to be an awesome trooper this weekend and you not getting sick.  and your hubby will rock!  It was just a rest week.

I had a great ride tonight. I actually thought of you guys while I was out there, wondering if any of you were training at that same moment. "I bet starcorp is running another billion miles." "I hope Cash doesn't crash on his bike." "Is today Dan's rest day?" Anyway, it was fun. I miss my ipod though.

I really need to get some gloves. Do they help that much? I also need to invest in some biker shorts. Can you believe I went on a 1 1/2 hour ride with no biker shorts?

Less than a month until my B race.

Thanks Michael:

Gave it all I had - really wanted the top 2 for the worlds spot - another day! Know where I need to work - starting some high level bike training w/ some roadies - got to be over 20 mph to win... distance will come on the bike - i just need to take more time - i've been runnning for 13 years and have a solid base - last summer my longest bike ride was 1 hour - so I'm seeing improvement - i always want it faster!!

Congratulations Dan & Michelle - it was great seeing how you both did.

Dan - only one word describes that reaction - Jealousy.  I guess you were supposed to go slow for a certain number of races...Undecided

Taking into account work and training, what's your typical daily schedule like to balance the two and family?
