Congratulations Dan & Michelle - it was great seeing how you both did.

Dan - only one word describes that reaction - Jealousy.  I guess you were supposed to go slow for a certain number of races...Undecided

Taking into account work and training, what's your typical daily schedule like to balance the two and family?

I just take comments like that in stride.  I am a firm believer that if you go out and have a good race, it doesn't matter if you win or come in DFL.  You had a good race!  That's what matters.

In regards to schedule, I am quite the planner.   It's the only way to get things done.  In general, if I have an AM workout, I get up at 5 am and either run or swim.  I am at work by 0715 and work until 4:30 pm.  Then I do my PM workout and am home around 7:30ish.  Masters swim is from 6 -7 and it takes me just over an hour to drive there from work.  Or if I bike right after work, I can get in just over 2 hrs.  Eat dinner around 8ish and spend time with Nan and the dog.  We don't watch TV, so we are talking and sharing time from the instant I come in the front door.  that includes walking the dog as soon as I get home.  I go to bed around 10 pm and repeat.

Weekends, I try and get my workouts in and done before noon.  Long runs, I'm done by 9 am and we usually meet up for Breakfast.  Long rides, we have lunch together.  In a nutshell, I train about 13 - 16 hrs a week and work 40 hrs a week.

The big thing is that on occasion, Nan will ask me to just hang out and I will cancel a workout for that.  BUT...she knows that it can't become a habit.  It's kinda like a silver bullet.  :P

Had a morning off before work which is always nice. Just browsed the Internet and read the paper. A trainer ride in big gear after work, we still have snow on the ground. A fairly easy day.

I started the day off with an hour on the trainer in HR z1 / z2.  It was 27 degrees, dark and I wasn't completely awake so it was safer to stay indoors this morning.  I can't wait until there is more daylight hours and more light early in the a.m.

Other than that I'm done for the day aside from some stretching and core work later this evening.

My 6 month old puppy is now a day trader, but not a very good one.

I had the trading platform open today, and she decided to jump on my lap and then to the keyboard. She was very proud of herself prancing on the keyboard. She placed 4 orders in a matter of seconds.

Fortunately after canceling those trades I was only down 85 dollars, and still made a decent profit on the day.

I do think that she more than spent her next month's allowance for doggy treats.

I'm bummed.  I just had an incredible string of consistent training derailed by a cold virus. Last weekend we visited some relatives during the Easter holiday that had colds.  The boys started showing symptoms the other night and then I woke up last night with a horrible sore throat.  I can handle the cold, I'm just dissappointed to see my consistent streak come to an end.  I'm hoping a day or two of rest will help me get healthy quicker than if I trained through it.

More dissappointing...

"THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM SUNDAY TO 6 PM EDT MONDAY.

WET SNOW IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE REGION LATE TONIGHT AND CONTINUE ON SUNDAY. THE SNOW MAY BE MIXED WITH RAIN AT TIMES TONIGHT AND SUNDAY ACROSS THE LOWER ELEVATIONS. ANY MIX WILL CHANGE TO ALL SNOW SUNDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH MONDAY. STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS BY MONDAY EVENING MAY REACH THE 4 TO 7 INCH RANGE. IN ADDITION TO THE HEAVY SNOWFALL...NORTH WINDS WILL INCREASE SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY WITH SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20 TO 25 MPH AND GUSTS TO 35 MPH. THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY WET SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS MAY RESULT IN SOME ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES."

C'mon....hasn't mother nature seen the calendar!!!!  Enough allready.  I'm ready for some warm weather.

Take a rest and cuddle up with the little boys. The cold will pass and spring will come, I'm guessing next week. You'll be stronger and ready to rock.

Looks like we have died a natural death and that's fine.  That means that everyone is sticking with their training!  My work here is done.

I will continue to monitor it, so if you have any questions or want to tell everyone how great you did, post it!

Train safe and Have fun!!!

That's what happens... you kill the thread.  I think you should stop over to COJ once and a while and take care of some of those.

PS... they might start calling you "The Hammer"

Hello, my name is Andy. I was a member of this group before I was kidnapped by aliens who forced me off BT to focus my efforts on something called "work."

I've managed to escape now, just in time for my IM training plan to kick off on Sunday. So, what have I missed?

You haven't missed anything that can't be repeated.  Which plan are you using?

Okay, I am officially nervous. My B race is one Sunday. Am I prepared? I have no clue. I timed myself for 440 yds in the pool. I came in right at 8:05. I was pleased.

I hurt my ankle last Saturday and haven't run on it since. I am running 3 miles today to test it out. Plus, I have to take my bike in for a tune up.

I have so many things to pack and make sure I bring. We are staying in a hotel the night before. Who is "we" you aske? my husband, AND MY 3 SONS, 5, 3, 1. WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I THINKING!!! So you can see why I am nervous.

Well, I will be sure to post on Sunday night or Monday morning and let you know how I did! Wish me luck!!

Hey Andy, I noticed you were from McKinney. I graduated from Allen High School in 95. Are there any good triathlons down there in North Dallas? I still have tons of family there. It is s great area!

Good Luck Carrie!  You'll have a great race - and a great experience!

It's probably a good idea to make a checklist for all your stuff!  I'm finally getting the idea that would be a good idea for me as well. Smile

Too many good races in Dallas to mention. Very rarely do I leave the area to do race. Only exception is for Redman. No IM-distance races in Dallas yet.

Good luck with the kids in the hotel the night before. I know my 2 kids would be wild. Try and get a good night's sleep on Friday night.

Hey Carrie, I have our first Tri this weekend. Its all nerves at the start but after some swimming you settle down and get into it. This never happens but try and relax, its all fun and over faster than you would like. Enjoy!!!!

Carrie,

Go here: http://triathlon.racechecklist.com/

It's a checklist that you can print out.  You put what you need and then print it out.  You check them off as you pack them.  I use it all the time.

Now, make sure you get a good nights sleep 2 nights before the race.  That's where you need the extra sleep, not the night before.  Same thing with carb loading.  Don't eat anything the night before that you're not use to eating.  Don't worry and enjoy the race.

If the hubby is a good Sherpa, and he will be, his job is to make sure things get taken care of.  Your job is to race.  Let him deal with the kids and stuff.

You're going to do great!!

I am so excited!!!

First, I had such a blast this weekend at the Race for Sight. I was "woohoo" all along the bike course. It was so much fun.

Then I found out this morning, I finished 3rd in the Athena divison out of 13 and get a medal!!! My first medal. In my actual age division I finished 3rd to last. Haha.

I've lost another pound and half so I am now at 158.5. I might keep at 151 so I can compete in the Athena divison!

I figured out for me that my race is to the start line and my reward is the actual race. The finish line is the bonus!
