Great race Tom!

I ran my first stand alone (non pacer) half marathon in a long time.  No race report yet, but I did set a PR:  1:33:55.

Hey guys

Thanks for the follow-up. Work has gotten the better of me lately, and I feel guilty about that. A lot of other pretty crazy things going on around here, but I still need to make the time for this. I did get an hour hike in on Saturday which was nice.

Nice work on the half mary, Captain.

Hello all, I am back after an unexpected absence, but will not be training for a little while still. I had/have meningitis. I posted the short story on my blog. I realize the story is still wordy, but 9 days int he hospital and 3-4 days of pain before that it is going to be a long story.

Hope all of y'all are doing well, take care.

Hey guys

I hope you are all doing well. Many of you have had some great races. My training has been sporadic over the last month, but I did get a run in this morning.

There a great deal of exciting things happening right now for us. We just put an offer in on our first house, and we are looking forward to the whole process. Our landlord threw us for a loop when she told us she was selling, so we worked out that if we bought something we could move early. I do not think we expected it to happen in two weeks, but we have an offer in. So we will need to see what happens next, but we are excited.

A little freaky that my first tri is two months away, but that is also exciting. I think in the next few days I will get the road tires for my bike so I can get some road time on slicks.

Well, back to work. I just wanted to let you know what I was still here.

Keep up the great work

Oh, I HATE SWIMMING!!!!! (not really, it's just frustrating to me)

I am SO in touch with that emotion!

Congrats on the house Adam!  Denver is such a great City!

My HIM / Du went pretty well considering I had zero taper for the race.  Actual times are posted in my blog.  I will try to get a race report up at some point.

How about anyone else???  Any races coming up?  How is everyone's training?  Any life news?

The next 2 weeks are tough for me training wise - lot's of travel.  So, we will see happens.  Then, next Sunday Kapinto and I are doing the White Lake Sprint.  It is going to be great to meet him!  I am doing that race specifically for some 'swimming in traffic' experience.  That is my single biggest issue as I prepare for IM CdA.  If I can get the swim down, everything else will come.

Safe training my friends!

Well to answer Doug's question on how is training going......It is not, still pretty much on bed rest, I got my Picc line removed yesterday so I am now off of the IV. My back is still hurting, and I get light headed sometimes when I stand up. I am hoping that this weekend I will be able to get out and maybe walk around the block a little. It is very frustrating when you have been running and biking one day and the next a disease knocks you on your a$$ .

It looks like everyone is doing well with training and racing, since I have been home I have been able to keep up with your logs and such and "train" vicariously through them, so run an extra mile for me this week. Take care and stay safe.

Steven

Hey Team

I hope everyone is doing well despite the absence of updates here. I have been running more, doing a 5.1 mile loop here at the office a couple of times a week. It gains about 400 vertical feet in the first 2.5 miles regardless of which way I run it.

I need to swim more but that will come soon. Same with biking, but a couple of weeks ago I did a 17 mile ride that felt good, but there sure are some damn hills here in Colorado.

House wise we found a new one after the last one fizzled and are close to completion. Just negotiating the inspection items at this points. It is about 3.5 miles to a Greenbelt which opens up trails both east into Denver and west into the mountains. From a training perspective it is great.

I have the Bolder Boulder 10 K in two weeks, which I am excited for. And then about a month from now is my first tri, which will conveniently be 3 days after moving day. Fun stuff.

I look forward to seeing everyone's updates.

I am a little injured but I am keeping on keeping on.

I have extensor tendonitis. Basically, I can't do impact workouts for the next couple of weeks. However, I am going to run a marathon in 2 weeks.

I've been biking more. I've picked up rowing. I am trying, and mostly succeeding, at keeping my activity level up.

Adam, good to see you back at it.  Congrats on the house!  "Ahhhh Denver, the Sunshine State!"

Sorry to hear about your injury Tom.  What marathon are you running?  Take care of yourself and don't do anything crazy.

How is everyone else doing?  Training well?  Fun races?  PR's???

As for me, I am getting excited for IM CdA.  I've had some good training lately.  I feel pretty ready and the total distance no longer scares me.  However, that assumes I make it out of the water, which is a concern of mine.  Once I am out of the water, it will be a great day!!!!

Happy training all!

Actually this should be 0.35 miles, just downhill from the new house.

Hello once again to all of you. Life has been crazy for me this past month. I really needed to prioritize afew things. But, I'm back at it with a vengance. LOL. I've registered for a "sprint" tri June 10th which is just 14 days before my 1st Oly in Philidelphia on the 24th. I'm using the 6/10 race simply for a practice and about 10 of my new found friends form the "TNT" group are also doing it so I guess it's really nothing more than (1) more excuse to do alittle partying. My wife just walked by and commented that I don't "NEED" any more excuses I've got quite enough as it is. LOL!

Steven, I hope your feeling better and getting stronger after your illness.

Doug, you'll do great in the swim. (just pretend your a little fish swimming away from a REALLY BIG FISH!)

Adam - Congrats on your new home.

Keith and Tom, you guys ROCK! I'm still tring to get my run time down close to yours.

As always all of you are a constant source of insparation... Thank you.

PEACE

I am running in the Madison Marathon. It ends at Brat Fest. The worlds largest brat festival. I like to call it carb loading. I will also need to replace all my lost fat from the run!

I posted the following on my blog today but thought I would post here as well.

Other things going on, we close on the new house on Wednesday. We will move in over the course of two days. I wish my first tri was not right after moving into a house, but I figure with a couple days rest I will be alright.

The weight loss is going well, and I hit on that below.

Alright, time to go pack some boxes.

BLOG UPDATE:

Bike to Run Brick

I was not concerned about distance but the approximate time I expected to be racing on race day. I biked for 65 minutes with two big uphill sections. The race will have one gradual uphill (a gain of 200 vertical feet) so todays ride I did more than that net.

After a quick transition in my garage, I took a gel and some water and was out running. It took about 10 minutes to find my legs, and once I did I felt pretty good and ran for 35 minutes. I expect to walk some on race day.

Race Update:

I got the email with all of the information. I will be in the last swim heat, which I am happy about. With the lack of OWS, this makes me pretty comfortable about the swim. I was a little concerned about the water temp but it will be what it will be. I looked into getting a wetsuit or trisuit but have not found what I want, so looks like no go on race day. Plus, I am hesitant to spend that cash when I am losing weight right now.

Overall, I am pretty excited/nervous about race day. Right now I am at my lowest weight in two years and the lowest weight I have done any race at.

For this race, I have two goals:
1) Finish
2) Have Fun

Both are completely in my control, so it should be a good race.
