Nice training w/ the weather and all.  I guess you are fully recovered from being sick.  Didn't take long to get back.  So do you work in another cycle of days...on my kids we try to shoot for 14days w/ Sunday off.  Enjoy.

I am currently training on a 16 ON days build up and 4-5 days OFF unload (easy sessions and/or days off) for a 21 day cycle. I try to push myself hard enough for the days I am ON and really let my body recover on the OFF days. Using this cycle it allows me to train more day/hours in total and at the same time having the necessary days to recover both mentally and physically.

Jorge thanks for checking in.  I have about 20 weeks until my HIM A race, and things are going very well.  Although the knee isn't 100%, the shoulder is close.  I am glad I listened to you and I have been taking it extremely slow and cautious.  I think I have built up my base pretty good, and will be slowly increasing my volume.  No intensity yet, but i do plan on incorporating.

Its starting to get warmer around here, too, which definitely ups the motivation factor.

Hey guys!

It seems I am mostly recovered from my calf injury(that took forever!) and flu, and now I can ramp up my training.  After taking almost 2 months off from running, I feel like I am 4 months behind.  I'm slowly building back the miles at a very slow pace.  The snow is finally melting here and tomorrow I will take my bike off of the trainer and go outside for the first time in months!

Swimming is going well, although I am always the slowest guy in the pool!  I don't mind, until the 80 year old grandma who's 75 pounds overweight passes me.  That's ok, I can outrun her......I think.

It is great news to hear that guys. Doug, remember to build up slowly in particular for 4-6 weeks. If you do that It will pay great benefits later on!

Keep on training smart!

I'm working through the "Train Slow(Smart) to Race Fast" challenge. I'm into week 11 now and I've been able to keep up the work since Nov. 06 without injury.

The race times are improving in both running and biking so I'm thrilled. My first A race is Mar 25th and I'm getting prepared for it now.

My greatest concern at the moment is keeping my shin pain from the airport Sunday only a nuisance and not an injury. I've iced and massaged it and held off on running to let it stop. Today it feels good, but I'll keep off of it until I can reassess tomorrow. Today will be a Swim & Bike day.

Next week will be easing up for the race Sunday.

Sorry that so many of you were injured/sick. Hope that your recoveries go well. Your encouragement and dedication have helped me keep with it, even during the harder moments (mostly mental).

"First we need to get our body ready for the base phase by doing unstructured easy sessions for at least two weeks. In this case, I’ll use the rest of December for that. No matter what, I’ll do some training EVERY day. All very easy and simple: maybe 10-20 min easy jogging or 10-20 min of easy swimming or 30+ min of easy riding. (By easy I mean your barely break a sweat!) Everyday other day I’ll also try to do at least 10-20 min of easy strength training (nothing with heavy weight. More like active stretching and balancing exercises). Other options could be long walks, yoga, hiking, skiing, etc."

Hey guys....It almost feels that I am back to here:

Week ONE:..So I will stay here for a couple of weeks hopefully getting my legs back into rhythm.  The key will be can I keep it up while school starts back up tomorrow.

Run:

20m 36s 2.40 miles 8m 35s /mile

Ride:

1h 1m 14.70 miles 14.46 miles/hr

Swim:

43m 21s 2000.00 yards 2m 10s /100 yards

Completed my first tri today! here is my race report. Thanks everyone for your help and encouragement (see the pictures for my family's help & encouragement). Jorge, I can definitely see where your coaching has helped me. For a post swim & bike run at 8:00 miles is fast for me and still going down.

Whoo hoo

I am still around and working on my training... I need some motivation. I've had bronchitis or something of that sort almost all of May and my training has suffered.

I'm getting better now and just finished tri #2... Now I'm setting my sights on #3 (B race in July) and #4 (A race September). Need to continue building base and developing swim, bike and running skills.

What would you guys like to do?

Ok guys, we have been procrastinating with this thread for a while! I’ve been training and just completed my 1st big race of the season this past Sunday with a solid result considering I got injured at the beginning of the swim!

Anyway, I am looking forward to move along and keep the ball rolling. I know a few had injury issues or just trouble getting into the training rhythm due to other life priorities but with the racing season in full mode and races getting closer we should find a way to keep an eye on each other. Any suggestions?

Hey Team Jorge!  Yes, I am still around, and following an HIM training plan for my A race on July 22nd.  I had some issues w/ shoulder and knee, but the shoulder is behind me, and the knee is almost back.  Still watching it, but the season is a go!

I haven't had time to check in as often as I like, but am looking forward to race season and seeing how everyone is doing.  I will be looking at RR and checking out this thread periodically.  I have a sprint coming up on June 2nd, and it will be my first race of the year.  I am excited to be back.

Keep up the good work, everyone!

with all that you have going on, thanks a bunch for keeping an eye out for us...much appreciated..  Question for you...Is a 800 m OWS doable on just pool time.  I can do the broken 500s, but 500-800 OW...well????  Any thoughts?  That is why I got cold feet for Cap Tex Tri on the 28th...

Guys-

I'm getting back up to speed after a disappointing May. Lost the month with sickness, but still put in my 2nd tri. Run tore me up more than usual, but I used this race to focus on the swim.

Now that it is June, I'm gearing up for my 4th race, the CajunMan, in September. I'll have a 3rd, T-Gator #3, in July, but I'm planning my training based on the further out race. So currently, I'm recovering my base and preparing to work hard and finish further up the rankings.

So how are you guys doing?

Sorry to hear about your knee Jorge. You're an animal to keep swimming and biking like that. Hope to see you running soon.

Hey guys!

Good to hear from all of you.  I'm gearing up for my first tri on the 17th up in Boulder.  It's the 5430 sprint and it should be a good time.  There will be about 1200 people starting the race and I just found out that my age group is going out in the first wave along with the Elite's!  I'd like to say that I'm going to draft off of them, but that would require them throwing me a rope!

I lost a lot of my run training due to a recurrent calf injury.  I'm running again, but short and slow and I'm staying away from the hills(impossible where I live, so I've been using the track at the school).  I was hoping to be WAY further along with my run by now, but that's the way it goes sometimes.  Also, the winter has been very long this year (we actually got some snow a couple of days ago).  That made it hard to get outside, but it's all good now!  I've had one open water swim and I'm doing another one tonight.  I'm really looking forward to these first two sprints this month, but the oly next month is a little daunting!  I know it will go great and should be a lot of fun!
