I've been looking at new road bikes and was wondering what the main difference between these 2 groups are, well I guess basically the difference between an 18spd and a 20 spd. Other than the extra gear are there any other benefits of the 10spd group? Thanks in advance.

Well, you get 2 extra speeds. I moved this year from a 16 to a 20 speed, and really apreaciae the extra speeds in the 15 - 19 teeth range. It allows you to keep your cadence in the zone you want on reasonably flat terrain.
And if I ever go into the mountains, I will purchase a new casette going above the maximum of 23 that I now have, and still have a reasonnable amount of speeds for flatter terrain.
If you have the choice, I would go for the 10 speeds.

10spd 105 is supposed to be about the same quality as the 9spd ultegra - so it should be a bit nicer than the 105 9spd but both should work well.
