Does anyone have one of these or can anyone tell me what the big deal is about these as compared to other blenders? It seems like people really like them but they seem to be fairly expensive. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

The difference is the power.  You could blend wood in a vita-mix.  They have 3HP motors and are just amazing.  We use ours almost everyday.  You can make nut butters in them (which  would never work in a regular blender) and you can even cook soup.  Yes cook it.  The thing comes with recipes where you put a bunch of stuff in turn in on high and the blade spins so fast that it will bring soup to a boil.  I've never tried myself though.

Anyways, if it is something that you are going to use everyday and you have some extra cash, go for it.  However it is a bit excessive if you don't have a use for a really high powered blender.
