Last week was not a good week for me and running. I was supposed to do 3:05, but thanks to an unhappy Achilles, I got in about 20 minutes on the treadmill and 1:00 of aquajogging, for a grand total of 1:20.

This week, I'm definitely aquajogging at least my Tuesday "run," and we'll have to see about Sunday. So, let's say 3:30 of total run-like activity!

And seriously guys, bust my chops if I don't do it! I'm afraid I have embraced the idea of recovering from my marathon a little too enthusiastically. I have less than 5 months to be in IM shape!

I strongly encourage you to find a Chiro that does ART in your area. It's deep tissue/muscle work on top of getting everything aligned.

I really think this is going to be my "break through" with my running injury... and my insurance covers it. He said that what I have is the start of problems with my achilles... without treatment.

All you can do it is try... right?

Seems like NewHymie has dissapeared.

Must have been all the tough workouts Madcow makes us keep doing.

He's almost as mean as my Marine Corps Drill instructors from 20 years ago!!

Yeah, I'm a drill sergeant

Actually I have to apologize for being somewhat absent lately. Everything is coming at me at a million miles per hour lately and I don't seem to have a lot of time on my hands. (I bought a bike over a week ago and still haven't seen it, for crying out loud )

I have poked my head in most of your logs over the last week or so, even if I didn't leave an inspire. For the most part you all are doing great and don't really need me for much, but I will continue the mentor group as long as you want me to. I will, at least leave your names on my freinds list and keep checking in on you all from time to time.

I definitely think we should keep this up. I don't have a lot of questions now because I am mostly training for a 1/2 marathon and I've already done one of those. During the Spring and Summer I am going to have lots of questions about TRI training.

Just race days tips and stories alone will be helpful.

I've been out of the loop for a while too but I'm backa nd feeling 100% again.

alright how often, and how do you practice your transitions. i had 5 min planned for both transitions combined, but would like to cut that down to around 2.5-3 min. any advice?

I really only practice about a week before each race. I also make a check list of things I need a couple of days before the race to make sure I don't forget goggles, helmet etc.

IMHO, Bring the minimal you can get by with. I think people tend to bring to much stuff into transition and this slows you down.

I think I practiced a couple of times my first year. These days, I just figure I'll wing it. How to keep your transition times down:

1) Get Yankz or some other type of shoelace you don't have to tie.
2) Make sure you don't have to change clothes, etc. Get an outfit you can swim/ride/run in with no issues, needing to put on a shirt etc.
3) Get a race belt. Easy to put on and you don't have to pin a number to a shirt that you have to try to put on wet.
4) Don't wear socks on the bike or running. But you need to get your feet use to running in your shoes without socks, before race day.
5) Some people keep their bike shoes clipped to their pedals, run barefoot to the line and then put their feet in the shoes while riding.
6) If you do #5, you then need to be ready to dismount with your shoes still attached to your pedals.
7) Have all of your stuff laid out and know where it is and be ready to grab for it quick.

Now, that's what I know... although the only ones I follow are #2, #3 and #7. And my transition times show it.

Good luck!

we still going to keep this group going? or disband and (sigh) part our ways. i vote that our loss of newhymie be considered our "disband" and we keep on going. most of us have barely hit the start of season anyway.

yeah, i think most just do the inspire directly. im still around, i'm not training until all my health stuff is figured out, unless the dr. says i can. i still check the site daily. i've had to drop out of two tris already (san jose international, and san luis obispo) because i have test days for the chp on those days.

Just a little more than a month until my 1st TRI so I'll need everyone's help with the hundred questions I'm sure to have before now and then.  I've got one now...

1st question - If you are not wearing a wetsuit, do you wear your tri-top during the swim.  I haven't bought a tri top or shorts yet.  I was considering just using a Under Armour compression shirt that I already have and a pair of tru shorts.  Is this a decent option.  Note - the race is a sprint.

I wear a wetsuit in every race (because I am water wussy), but I do know that there is nothing harder than trying to put on a shirt or socks while wet. Whatever you decide, you need to practice first. Nothing like being half stuck in a shirt in transition

I'd wear the top.  Granted, racing topless is not an option for me, but I can't imagine trying to pull a compression shirt over wet skin.  My (male) training partner races in a two piece and he's fine.

Hey all.  TC and I both did the Philly Tri this weekend.  Sprint for me, Oly for him.

The race went great.  Thanks for all the help and encouragement along the way!
