What is your plan of attack? What are you going to change about your diet/life style to bring about weightloss?

I'm going to:

  • stop drinking soda and cafe mochas (very ouch)- sugar is my downfall!
  •  not go nuts on the weekend- I'm typically pretty good during the week and I fall apart on the weekends- no more!
  • workout consistently
  • help my husband with meal-planning- he cooks but I need to pick out healthy dinners for us
  • watch portion size
  • pay attention to my body and learn to stop when I am satisfied, not necessarily full

Give up ice cream, candy, and cut back on bread(s). Also eat smaller portions.

I'm happy to report that last night was the first night in MONTHS that I didn't attack the jar of peanut M&Ms on our counter. AND, the first time I've not had ice cream since we've had it in the house, which has been fairly often these past few months. Of course, I was in class last night but typically I'd hit the jar as soon as I got home and maybe even have some ice cream after that.

It's a start...

You guys have any room for a Fatty in Mass?

I don't even wnat to get on the scale right now. I'm probably flirting with 150 lbs, and would like to get down to 135 for IMLP - I've never been that light before in the entire time I've been doing tris, (or probably even as an ADULT) so maybe it's just a stupid arbitrary number in my head. So I'll see how I feel at 140 lbs before fighting that last 5 lbs.

I think for everyone trying to lose weight for Lake Placid, the nutrition experts say that the time to drop the tonnage is during the early, base phase of the training. LIKE NOW.

I tried losing weight for IMFL, but the misery of training was all together too much soothed away by the frequent snacking and huge meals. I raced around 144-146 lbs.

But at Lake Placid, I'm sure dropping 15# would make lots of difference on the hills on the bike.

I have to make peace with the fact that I have to deal with whatever comes on the road, and make the best of it. So my plan is to start by eating LESS, and actually COUNT MY CALORIES

I'm going to start logging my weight whenever I can remember to do it when I'm at home and probably will have to start obsessing about counting calories again and measuring food.....I did this before I started doing triathlons and IT WAS MISERABLE. No wonder I've gotten heavy again.

I'm NOT trying to justify carrying extra weight now as opposed to then. I was barely under 140 but  finishing a 10K was like "the deal" back then.

I bought that book Paleo Diet for Athletes over the summer and.....well, **** THAT ****. Not when I'm on the road, and I don't think I'd even consider that if I came home every night.

What's everyone else's plan?

Ummmm... I have to say it again re: Paleo Diet for Athletes.

"FU(K THAT $H!T"!  LOL

Anyone have any good recipes? I found a recipe for homemade all-natural energy bars. I think if you are okay in the kitchen you can tweak the recipe, because as it's listed......it's not so fabulous tasting. FILLING though.....

hmm...y'know eating healthy & to fuel "going long" can also have the net EFFECT of weight loss..I am severely cluless/nutrition challenged..would be interested in monitoring/improving food VALUE & balnace..maybe that could fit in..working on tstuff to eat that is healthy/nutritious & variable portion control for those who are trying to decrease calories..or conversely to ADD a few calories to not deplete the bitsy muscle mass that's present...LOL

LOL- little lull at work here...LOL

OK, As i have said I weigh around 154ish and My hope is to lose atleast 10 lbs for IMLP. I dont want to be carrying an extra weight up those fkn hills if i dont have to do it. My plan is no junk and after I ate a sensible meal get out of my chair and away from the table. Also, I use a smaller dinner plate which makes it look like more food...try that trick. I am lucky cause the wife isnt big on meat so we do alot of fish and veggie stuff.

Part of me thinks that once the serious training starts (like now) the weight will start melting off. I was pretty sucessful last year got down to 149 I am shooting for another 5 lbs. Those long slow runs burn lots of calories and that is when I have lost most of my weight. It will be interesting to see how all the strength training impacts the weight loss. They say muscle is heavier but that shouldnt be a problem I have no muscles. All the push ups in the world wont help.LOL.

Well good luck everyone and stay away fromt he crap. Remember we are looking for fuel not twinkies!!

PS..I must have ice cream once a month! In moderation of course.

Good luck all

Okay, so I'm in for this challenge. I am going to start by purchasing a good scale. I have no idea how much I weigh right now because I threw my old scale in the garbage a while back. (It was old and it was a LIER!!)

For me the weight thing has always been difficult. The charts always put me at obese because I have lots of muscle and sturdy bones. I believe my weight is down to the lowest its been since my second baby (who is almost 14). So I have lost weight in the last year or so, but I would like to lose another 10-20 lbs and work on toning my core areas and my arms.

Its best for me not to get hung up on the number but rather to focus on the level of fitness and strength that I feel. I already make pretty healthy food choices but need to do more planning and count calories to make sure I am not over eating.

MM is so disciplined!!

As far as skinny-minnies, JOANNE is the skinny one!

And I think the whole mentality of "don't worry, I'll sweat it off (today, tomorrow, this weekend) is what really gets me in trouble. But you have to fuel up, and then....well, it doesn't ALL come off for me!

Friendzy at Friendly's. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

I had a poor choice for breakfast today thinking it'll be okay since I'm going to do 2h 45m on the bike today and probably make up my swim that I skipped yesterday. I don't know how many calories I ate, but I know I had well enough more than I needed.

I need to purge out my fridge/freezer and cabinets of all which does not serve me.

I've found that going to the websites of the places I frequent (Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, etc) and reading the nutrition info helps deter me a little. For instance, I used to enjoy a wheat bagel from DD with a little lite cream cheese, but after reading how many calories are in that bagel (330 plus 120 from cream cheese), I haven't had one in a few weeks. I've also mentioned how much I love cafe mochas from Starbucks, and after reading the nutrition info I now get it with skim milk and no whip cream, which saves me several hundred calories and at least 10 grams of fat.

DD's wheat bagels are about as "wheat" as Subway's wheat bread. I really think they just dye the white bread brown.

MM—you are finally saying something that makes sense!!

Forget DD—they serve crap!!

Go to the super market and buy wholesome whole foods and make your own meals. Fruits, veges, nuts, high quality protein (fish, chicken), olives, cheese, oatmeal. You can munch on stuff all day so long as it is wholesome and natural.

Stay away from the processed packaged crap!! Its good for nothin'!!

Not to rain on Pam's parade , but I think we all know this. It's the fact that we, well me anyway, don't make the decision to choose the good stuff over the bad. It's a willpower thing, I think...
