Subject: Old Dog tri's new trick
Hello everyone I'm 51 and live in Central FLorida. Have been biking for a few years , but have followed tri's enough that I would like to give them a go. Haven't got a date set for the first one yet but have just started training for the running which will be the hardest part for me. I severed an achiles tendon playing tennis about 10 years ago, hence the cycling. I would like to get through a couple with no damage and see where I stand . Thanks for the oppotunity to say hi . I am already enjoying the info here.

Tim

Welcome Tim!! Be careful, the sport you are about to tri has serious side effects: obsession, gadget purchasing, and posting!!

You've been warned!

Welcome!  Good luck with the Achilles - hope it doesn't flare up.  Are you thinking this year or next year for a tri?

Hey another TW on the forum.  The most illustrious TW in these parts  is Thomas Welsh. So there are at least three TW's around.

Welcome.  I am about your age and I really think the three sport mixture is the best thing for us geezers.  Spreads the pain around uniformly.

Anyway post early and post often.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. COgirl I'm going to be realistic and say it will be spring of 05. I'm still doing alot of cycling and want to do a couple of centuries this fall. But I will be working on my swiming and my running and should be ready by then. If the achiles holds up and my running form comes up quickly then who knows.

Sorry to be so long in responding. I live in Avon Park. In Highlands County. We have just got our power back today from Hurricane Charley. Heavy damage in our area as the eye passed about 20-25 miles west of us.Thankfully we are unhurt.

Hi TW,

One of the main reasons I keep exercising is so that when a crisis like Charley comes along I'll be able to help get the community back in shape.  It may be a while before things settle down in Avon Park but when they do you will have some motivation to keep yourself ready for whatever comes along next.

We are all glad to hear that you are fine.  I am sure you know lots of others in the area who were not so lucky.  We hope that you and the whole community can get your lives back to normal soon.

Good luck,

TW
