Well, I'm not going to answer the weight question, although I've had some good things the last few days. I think I've finally gotten rid of the crap that kept me sick for the last 3-4 weeks!

I also started a plan that turned out to be the wrong 12-week HR Sprint plan. I had a workout the other day that expected 45 minutes and 2000+ meters. I wish!!!!! So I changed to the Basic 12-week plan and am doing great. Swam my 600 today and just got of the bike for an hour. Much better.

I took a look at Trifind the other night and I think I may have laid out a nice plan. Here goes - Sprint with Tri the Parks here in GA on Apr. 28, then Emeral Coast in May and My First Tri in FL in June. I haven't signed up for any of them except the Tri the Parks one.

As far as the weight goes - I'm going to do the plan and eat better, the rest will come off.

I saw that swim in your log the other day and thought that was pretty intense. Probably a good idea to scale down. You have to build your training hours up, the 10% rule on increasing is probably a good idea in the early stages. You have lots of time, so build that base! Which Tri the Parks are you doing? I haven't done one, but have heard they are well done.

Last year I did the one at Fort Yargo, but wanted to do the one at Tanner in Carrolton. Unfortunately, I procrastinated thining I wasn't going to be ready and Tanner filled up. They only take 300 participants. This year I signed up early and am in the Tanner one in Carrolton.

I can't speak from experience of other races but I thought it was well done, be everyone except me, . I finished that's all I wanted!

Sorry for the bad report, Cheri. Hope you heal quickly. I know you will meet that goal in your 1/2 mar. What about a fall tri like the Crab Trap or Santa Rosa? Both are in October.

I've been looking at the Destin Crab Trap Tri. Since it's in my backyard, I think that will work! I was looking at the results from last year, and I know several people who raced in it. That may help me get over my first tri trepidations!

I'll be cheering you on at My First Tri! I've worked it for the last several years, and since I'll still be recovering I'm sure I'll work it again.

I was looking at the Emerald Coast website, and it says "All future races have been cancelled until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience.". Does anyone know what that's all about, and if it is true?

Thanks to Cadence 120 and David for a great experience. I recommend all take an opportunity like this if you get the chance.

It does sound like fun, although a lot of the technicalities would be lost on me. I'm very much a novice when it comes to biking. I like it, but don't know what I'm doing right or wrong.

So now that I've admitted that, I've probably jumped the gun -- but I bought a new bike yesterday! It should be in late this week, but I can't wait!!!

I bought a Felt FW3 -- it's supposedly built for women, and since I'm not very tall or big, it seemed like the best idea. I can't wait until it gets here!

What can you guys tell me about trainers? I didn't really know what you were talking about before, but I looked online and it appears that it may actually help me get through recovery if I understand it correctly. When I first broke my clavicle, my doctor wouldn't let me ride for a few months(!) because he was afraid I'd fall and reinjure it (like that really matters at this point!). But if a trainer is stationary, it seems like I'd be able to ride my comfort bike upright and still get some exercise. Does that seem logical?

Yes, the trainer should let you accomplish that. I have the cycle ops fluid trainer, cost about $200 and its a pretty solid investment. I rode for 5 years before I ever got on a trainer and its not as fun as the road, but its weather proof. My wife had a foot injury and the dr said not to ride on the road so she used the trainer for 6 weeks of her ironman training. You can make the ride as hard or easy as you like and you can sit upright with no problems.

Most was lost on me too.  But it was somewhat to have someone who does know and it trained in this field to take a look and let me know I am doing alright.

A new bike.....exciting! Let us know how much you are enjoying it.

My experience with a trainer is the same as others and has been positive. Not the same as riding on the road but I can use it at night and in bad weather. I can even use it while helping with math homework so there are pluses.

Yup, that's it exactly. Now I just need to get it and ride it! I read the stuff you wrote, especially about the component type and the frame material. I talked around, plus did some research online, and I think this will be a good bike for me. I told the owner that I couldn't possibly ride an orange bike, though (just kidding...).

How's the weight loss goals going? I have been avoiding the scales, looked tonite up 15 pounds from ironman. Its a combination of reduced training combined with no reduction in calories. Doesn't help that I work in the restaurant business, but no excuses. I gotta get back to my fighting weight.

I just read a funny article on dieting on active.com -- http://active.com/story.cfm?story_id=13745&category=Running&num=1 I don't think you have to be logged on to view the article.

I liked tip #2 (Only one dessert per day!), but the best one, of course, was tip #1 -- You must really want it! Today I am fortunate because I can exercise and keep the weight off, but it hasn't always been that way for me. I still struggle somewhat, but find that the goals I set make it happen.

Why can't it be easy????

I do a race plan for most of my races. It basically recaps my goals and who I plan to run the race. Its fairly simple for a run but just helps me make sure I am focused. This is my plan for tomorrow.

Things to remember -

Clothing -The race starts at 6:30 AM. Temps will be around 30. Probably wear tights with a long sleave under armour shirt and a second shirt with pockets over that.

Nutrition - Carry amphipod filled with water. Carry 2 gues in pocket. If stomach fills good take a gue at the one hour mark. Second gue after mile 10 if I feel like I need it. Drink water on the course. Also okay to have a little banana if i get hungry.

Goal - PR for Half Marathon Distance. Previous best is 2:23:09, which I did 2 years ago in New Orleans. My goal for this race is to beat 2:20:00. Which mean a 10:40 pace. Dream goal is 2:15, don't really think my ankle will allow that, but its out there.

Race Plan - Start out easy, keep HR under 140 for first 2 miles. Should be right at 10:40 pace but its okay if its a little faster or slower. Mile 3 pick up just a little, HR around 145 at the most till mile 5. From 5 to 10 keep our under 150. This should be very close to the 10:40 pace. Maybe slightly better. Push it up for the final 5k, give it all and see what happens.

Congrats!! You did great! It must have been very cold out there. Did you mind it much?

It looks like you held very close to your plan. I understand the reasoning behind a plan, but I guess I've never been that organized. I just do the calculations to figure out what my pace needs to be, then try to stick to the plan. Perhaps it's a difference in running styles, though?

You have to be happy with a PR!

Here is my race report from yesterday. I am notorious for long reports so I want be offended if you get bored with it.

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

Cheri, the cold was bitter but once you get started it was no big deal. Luckily the hotel was close to the start line and everything started on time. Only had to stand around 20 minutes.

With your running experience, I expect a plan would be pretty simple. I just don't run that far very often and like to map out how I think I should do the race. I really thought I could be a little faster than that yesterday but I think the hills got me. Training plans for running races are much easier than for tri's. In those, you need to think out transition and how to leave something in the tank to finish with.

How was everybodies week? I didn't do as much training as I planned. Gotta get my butt back swimming.

Well, looks like my February is busted as far as goals set earlier. I have been out of town plus Mardi Gras'ing for the past few days. I'll take those numbers and push them forward to March. Back to the training routine today! And I have to get back to the pool.

How is everybody doing?

I got to "visit" my new bike last night. It looks wonderful -- hopefully it rides just as great! I'm going to pick it up after work tonight, but it doesn't look like I'll get to ride it until Saturday morning (tomorrow's another crazy day!). And of course it's supposed to be cold then...

Gina, you did Mardi Gras? Was it fun???
