Oddly enough, I do have interest in that. I've seen it before - some cycling club does this. I'd have to look around to find out who.

Any details on when you're planning on it?

Right now it's in the "wouldn't it be cool if..." stage. I'm interested and I've talked to a couple buddies of mine from work and they're interested too. We've only been talking about it for a day or two, so no plans have been made.

Well, I take that back. We've talked about if we'd do it in 2 or 3 days and figured on 2 probably... The one guy is dating a girl who goes to Rutgers and said we could crash there (if we do it before June... it'd be about 90-100 miles into the trip if you start from High Point).

I imagine the planning will get more serious once the weather gets nice. Also, I'm signed up for the Long Branch Half-Mary at the end of April, so that's what I'm focusing on now and the rest is up in the air. Once some of the local tris start getting announced, we'll probably look at the calendar and figure out a good time for the ride.

That's really cool.  I'm not sure how to fit it in though, right now my dance card is looking pretty full!  I'm also doing the Long Branch Half in April, a sprint near Jim Thorpe in June, the NJ State Oly in July, and then I'll be working towards a different double-century bike tour for the Trenton Soup Kitchen in September (Battle Against Hunger ride, Pennington NJ to Gettysburg).  But that would make for some sweet training.  Maybe I'll be one of those folks who does it in pieces   Keep us posted as the dates firm up, I reserve the right to change my mind at any time (typical female, eh?)

ps - you've all seen the NJ Bike Map website, yes?

So we all going to be at NJ Marathon / Long Beach Half?? I'm doing the full mary - lucky me - I get to do 2 laps of the half!

And I'll probably do NJ State Oly too.

I was looking at the NJ State one too, but that's 2 weeks after the Randolph Tri and seeing as how I haven't done ANY yet, I don't want to get gung-ho signing up for a ton of races.

My friend from work was telling me that she's pretty sure one of the local bike groups (Morris Area Freewheelers?) do this ride in a day... anyone know anything about that? Sounds kind of nuts to me.

Found this on Suburban Cyclists website:

The Longest Day and the Jersey Double are for very strong riders who want to pedal 200 miles in one day. Both rides take place in June around the date of the maximum daylight. The Longest Day is a one-way ride from High Point to Cape May, diagonally across the entire length of NJ from North to South. Write to the CJBC at Box 2202, Edison, NJ 08818. Riders must join the CJBC in early May to participate in The Longest Day.
The Jersey Double is a 200-mile loop through rural parts of six northwestern NJ counties (Hunterdon, Somerset, Morris, Warren, Sussex, and Mercer) containing some of the state's finest countryside. The route is moderately hilly with 11,00 feet of vertical climbing. The strongest riders complete the course in a little over 11 hours, but others finish in the dark, requiring more than the 16 hours of daylight available. 54 riders, including a few SCU members, completed the 200 mile course in 2000. For information on the Jersey Double, contact the Western Jersey Wheelmen.

Looks like the ride is on June 10.

I did the Longest Day 2 years ago. You have to get a sag driver to follow you to enter the ride. It was fun but it took me a lot of training which I balanced on top of working everyday and taking night classes. I tried to follow the double plan in the Complete Book of Long Distance Cycling but it was tough to maintain during the week, I always hit the weekend rides though. Its largely mental because the second half of the day through the Pine Barrens is boring.

My friends and I just did this ride last week and the Pine Barrens were brutal.

Overall it was definitely a good time though. If anyone has any questions or wants to tackle it, let me know and I'll try to help as best I can.
