Our "hot" weather was very short lived! One day at 70, and the next at 55... since then it's been back to the chilly 30's BLAH!

I hope Spring comes soon!

Just checkin' in

Let's see, last week:

Most notably I now have a swim coach.  She is a killer triathlete and great swim instructor.  I noticed a big difference after only one lesson with her.  I am looking forward to time with her this week, too.  Try not to faint but I'm actually enjoying my swims

This week:

The good news:  I ordered a new bike.  Hopefully it will be here by Friday and I'll have a chance for a fitting (cause it's supposed to be about 75 degrees or so and while I have other bike options, I wanna break in the new one a.s.a.p.).  I will start to try to get a little more distance in on my runs.  So far the shorter distances are still feeling OK and I've come to terms with a 10K limit on running at the moment.  The bad news: I am not sure about training this week.  Sick and injured children are my current priority.  I was not able to train yesterday and there's little chance it will happen today.  I do have a friend coming over a couple times later in the week so I can have a bit of a respite and I will try to maintain a normal schedule by working out in early a.m. (evenings are not usually an option for me).  However, it's just a minor blip in the big picture.  No worries.

Last Week: The most notable thing from last week was I busted my  knee.  I didn't actually hurt it.  It just started swelling up.  I can't bend it all the way and there is a ball of "stuff" on the inside.  To say the least I'm a little frustrated  with it.  I knew this may happen but I thought it would be much later.

This Week: I have a dr. appt on thursday.  They will prob drain and then shoot me up with some stuff to help with the swelling.  I'm really really hoping he doesn't talk to me about surgery.

On a training front I'm going to be getting much more time in the pool.  I will be missing all my runs and all my bikes.  It sucks with only 6 weeks to St. Anthony.  I'm still going on my cruise though

Hey, it's me...BT slug.  Have been out of the BT interaction loop (inspires, updates).  I've got a great job, but sometimes it sucks me in (read: priority misbalance).

Last week:

Monday was an unintended rest day.  Wife was out of town and I was adjusting to being Mr. Mom.  Only 1 workout on the bike this week.  1100 and 1800 yd swims, 2 weekday run workouts and my usual Saturday long run (this Saturday was 15.6 miles).

This week:

Got a good 1800 yd swim in yesterday.  One segment was a 20 minute continuous swim, so I know I can finish the sprint swim segment.  Looking forward to getting some open water swims in, but still ICE ON THE LAKES here in MN.  So far an hour of stationary biking in.  Need to shed my wimp attitude and get out there on my road bike.  1100 yd swim and long run planned for tomorrow.  I'll be in sunny California Wednesday and Thursday night.  I've already contacted some BT folks in San Dimas for places to run OUTSIDE!!!  1800 yd swim and long run planned for Friday.  Saturday will be a fallback day (yes!)--4 miles.

Uh, too late.  They broke out the smelling salts, though.

Sorry to hear about the little ones.  I guess I need to check blogs more than once a week! Hope they recover quickly...

Sorry to hear about the knee.  Is StA still doable?  Guess it depends on whether you need surgery or not.  Keep us informed...

I'm not sure yet.  I'll find out more on Thursday.  I'm hoping I can just get it drained but I think I know better than that.

Last week: Increasing my runs, bike, swim time.  Ok so far.  Did some cross country skiing - hopefully last opportunity of the season.

This week:  Off to a a good start.  Wife had a miseable cold.  Which I now unfortunately picked up.  At home feeling very sick and sluggish.  Hope this goes away quickly so I can get back into my program.

Been eating better lately.  Really watching what I'm eating.  Banana for breakfast.  Salads or sushi for lunch.  Almonds for AM/PM snacks.  Dropped 5 lbs in the past couple weeks.  Trying not to use snacks as 'comfort' food.  Will take some practice.

Well looky there!  I was just wondering where you've been!  Yes, clearly if you are spending more time on your career than inspiring your BT friends you must rethink your priorities, possibly find a new job

ICE ON THE LAKES

Is that the name of a triathlon up there?  :p

So the Dr. didn't say anything earth shattering to me.  He gave me some super anti-inflammatory to see if it will bring down the swelling.  I have an MRI scheduled for Monday.  I'm hoping I can get the Radiologist to read it right there so I can speak to the Dr. early.  If I can't do that I have to wait until April 2nd to get the results and then discuss the options.  That is way too long to deal with this.  I can't walk anymore because it's so swollen.  I really hope the pills bring down the swelling so I can at least walk for the next 2 weeks.

Last Week: High volume, and hit all of my scheduled workouts... even went above by adding kickboxing into the mix. My shins felt much better and I put a bit of weight training back into the mix also.

This Week: Did my first spin class! I think this will become a Monday normal... and began swimming lessons (this will also be a Mon normal). I'm going to be sure to hit the pool 2 more times this week (making 3x a week my new schedule) and be sure to watch my HR during my runs... as it was quite high on my long run this past weekend.

I went to the Dr. today and got some bad news.  I have to have surgery.  I have a substantial tear in my Lateral Meniscus that is causing the swelling and pain.  I have surgery scheduled for next Wednesday.

This means that I'll have to push by St. Anthony registration back to next year if I can.  I guess I also have to start looking at my goals in general and reevaluate them.

Sorry about the knee! Be careful when you come back and let it fully heal!

Sorry I have been out of the loop some lately. Lots of stress here! I am back on track and found another race April 15th to try and redeem my last race :-)  It is basically a 3/4 Oly distance.  I am doing a river swim with DRM this afternoon in wetsuit to see about my breathing in the cold water and if wetsuit too tight for longer distances.

I see a couple of you have swim coaches! I need to find one around here for less than $75 per hour!

You MN people stop reading now ok! Weather is getting hot. Already running the AC some days. Still cool in early am or nights for my runs. This is spring break so a lot of eating out, taking daughter to the mall, ice cream, etc. I did get out of going to the big Orlando mall for girls clothes shopping today! Wife is going through plantar fascitis (sp?) but insisted I stay home. Probably because night before I said no too many times. I mean come on, $60 for shorts for a 12 year old!

Ok I am rambling. Anyone have any specific questions as some of you are getting closer to races?

Last week: had a couple of really good runs, joints were cooperative... I still have to watch my pace but overall it seems to be working out OK.  I got my new bike and will post pics once I figure out how to do so!  I need an easy button.  Due to the "Saga of Baby Luke", my training has been catch as catch can for the past 2 weeks with no real ability to follow a plan.  I have had to be VERY creative to find ways to fit training in during the week and I'm happy that I've been able to do as much as I have.

This week: Continue to train when I can without being grumpy when I can't, try to get more time in the saddle on varied terrain to get comfy cozy with the bike... I see hill repeats in my future!  Train with my swim coach, work towards keeping track of swim distances instead of just watching the time as if I were in prison .  Run 3X's outside now that the temps are in "the range".

Last week:
M -
1600 yd swim
Tu - 1 hr. bike, hill repeats on stationary
W - Fallback swim 800 yds.  55 minutes of hill repeats on the tready (I AM GOING TO DRIVE MYSELF INSANE!).  The weather needs to warm up.
Th - mile repeats
F - 3 discipline day - 1000 swim, spin class and stationary bike, 4 mile run
Sa - 30 min bike on stationary.  Weather was crappy (cold & rainy) so I decided to do 16 miles INDOORS!  Boy was that a mistake.  It was miserable.  4 miles on the track and *12* miles on the treadmill.  I could tell you every major event on the news for the past 24 hours (CNN).

milaminute - 2007-04-03 8:30 PM

I got my new bike and will post pics once I figure out how to do so! I need an easy button.

We have an easy button?  Let me know if you need some help.  We've been waiting for those pics for...uh, how long?   Send us some nice weather from Hot-lanta

This week:
M -
2000 yd swim.  Getting up in the major yardage range.  Shooting for an oly...
Tu - 50 min hill repeats on stationary bike.  45 min run in Z2.
Today - 1850 swim.  Part of that giving instruction to someone doing their 1st tri in Chicago.
Th - 1 hr bike.  Hill repeats on stationary or hopefully road bike.
F - 1100 swim, 45 min run in Z2.
Sa - 30 min warmup on bike (stationary).  *17.5* mile long run.

Happy training to everyone.  Those of you that have summer weather, send some hot air up this direction...

Progress report.... cause I think I am actually making progress...

Item #1:  I will post pics (of the bike), I promise... I do need help, Sal... I need a LOT of help, not sure you can provide it all but you can at least help with the picture posting process

Item #2:  Shameless bragging on myself because I can't wait until next week... I ran 3X's this week and all three were under 12:00/mile pace.  This is HUGE for me.  Last week each run was around 12 and this week... drum roll... 11:31, 10:46, 10:42.  Granted, I'm still limited in my distances but I'm still happy with the pace finally picking up a bit!

Item #3:  I had my first ever swim today where I wasn't watching the clock like a hawk thinking "when can I get out"...

O.K., let me see if I can walk you through this...

1.  Take a digital picture of your bike (and a pic for your new sass avatar) and upload them to the computer you're currently using into your 'My Pictures' subfolder (in your 'My Documents' folder).
2.  Go to your TRAINING LOG and cursor down to under your avatar (the 'not updated sass avatar') and click [Album]
3.  Cursor over to the right side (middle) and click on Create and edit your video and photo albums.
4.  Enter an album name in the box, like 'Bike' or 'Sass avatars.'
5.  Enter a description in the [Description] box (optional)
6.  Check the boxes (your choice):
[Allow registered users to post comments?]
[Allow unregistered users to post comments?]
7.  Click on [Submit].
8.  Under Photo Albums, you'll see your new 'Album Name.'  Click on Upload photos and videos.
9.  Click on the [Browse...] button.
10.  Select your pictures from your 'My Pictures' folder (should be the folder the program defaults to when you click on the [Browse...] button).
11.  Enter a 'Caption' or 'Description' and press [Submit].

Of course, this will all be slightly different if you're a Mac user.  Good luck.  Let me know if you need more help, or more encouragement to get your sass avatar up...

Subject: Muddy Buddy

So has anyone heard of, or participated in, a race called the Muddy Buddy??? If not, I highly recomend it! The races are all throughout the country, we did the one in Chicago last year and are trying to get the info on brining one to our area this year.

The gist is One Team (2ppl), One Bike, Obstacles and One BIG MUD PIT. The course is about 7 miles. The first teammate takes off running... a few minutes behind the other teammate takes off on the bike. The runner has an obstacle after running about a mile, then they find the bike their partner dropped off and head out. The biker is now running. So on and so forth you leap frog through run, bike and obstacles. Then, at the end is a monster Mud Pit that as a team you must army crawl through to get to the finish!

Go to www.muddybuddy.com

Incase anyone needs something fun, where time isn't the goal  (Mila, they have a kids course that is hysterical to watch and I think there's a race in Atlanta too)
