Well, I will probably see a few of you at some of those races this year. I am going to do some volunteer work for Big O, Heritage Park and Tinman (hopefully), but will be participating in Flint Hills, SMP, Midwest Mayhem and Meltdown. All short courses, of course.

Hadn't checked in on this thread in awhile... missed out on posting new toys. But here's mine anyway. I've already fallen over still clipped in, so I got that out of the way early

Lisa, What a beautiful bike you have there!

It looks a little familiar... but mine has pink pedals.

The water's going to be *very* cold for the Big "O"!! I hate wetsuit swimming. I've only done it once and I thought I was going to drown and I'm an excillent swimmer. I guess I need to get some people to start going to the lake with me in April to practice. I don't want to freak out on a 1.2 mile swim!

I'm looking for someone to try that lake in April. I, too, registered for the Big O and that cold lake kind of intimidates me.

If you want to hook up and try it together drop me a line

We move to OP five months ago from Omaha.

Lots of multisport events down here. This is my first year and I'm loving it. No races yet, have a 5k in Omaha Apr 21.

Hi, sorry I haven't gotten on here and replied sooner. I would love to get together and go for a Lake swim sometime. I really need to practice in my wetsuit. I'm a great swimmer, but hate the effing wetsuit!! I was going to try to go next weekend, but I could probably go some evening this week if you want. Big "O" is coming up so we better get out there. Let me know what works for you, I do work during the day and I live in Lawrence.

I was thinking of sometime after 04/15 when the water and air might be a bit warmer. I am working on getting somebody who has a kayak or small rubber boat to go along to clear the critters out of the way, serve as a guideline and also be there in case someone hyperventilates from the cold. When I get something setup I will drop you a line.

I work in Gardner and train around Lake Olathe so anytime is fine for me.

Fantastic, just let me know when you want to go, like I said, weekends are best for me. I have never been to Olathe Lake and I need to get out there to ride some of the course, I'll probably do that when we swim!

I would like to get some lake swimming in also so drop me a note if you decide to go. I've got Escape from Alcatraz coming up in six weeks and need to start getting used to freezing water again. Of course, I'm behind in my training so there are lots of things I need to get used to again...

I'm also relatively new to KC (8 months), so I don't have a good feel for places to swim. I was told the lakes are "closed", but when I went by Shawnee Mission Park I didn't see anyone there to stop me ;)....

I just discovered this KS message board. I don't have a good bike pic to share but I upgraded to a Cervelo P2K last year and switched out the whole front end (bullhorns, end shifters, etc.)

Regarding upcoming races, you guys have covered them all but I just wanted to mention a race that a few of us will be doing in September. The Redman in Oklahoma City is scheduled for September 22nd this year and they offer a half and full iron distance. This race is only a few years old but all of the reviews are very favorable. Maybe Ironman will pick it up in the next few years then we will have an Ironman race within a five hour ride. I've done the Ironman Blackwater Eagleman Half in Maryland and everything was top notch.

Anyway, just my two cents. I'll be doing all of the locals this year (Big O 1/2 iron du, Heritage, Shawnee Mission, Midwest Mayhem, Midwest Meltdown, Jackson County) planning on long/olympic distance where available.

I think I will be going to the OK redman also. I will be doing the half if I go, there is no way I will be ready for a full ironman by then.

Looks like we will be doing a lot of the same races...See you there!!

I believe we are going to be getting in the Lake this weekend sometime, but haven't heard a time yet. I swam in Lone Star Lake outside of Lawrence yesterday and it was frigging cold. My feet were numb after a few minutes. Thank God for wetsuits. When I was done swimming I thought "well that wasn't so cold, I can probably get in without the suit" I was wrong. I got in up to my calves without the suit and turned around.

Anyway, I'll let you know if I hear anything about when we're getting in the lake!

Sunday at 4 pm in the transition area at Lake Olathe. I went down at lunch and tried the water. It seemed pretty warm to me. Nice lake for a swim!!

I just wanted to let everyone know who is interested that a few of us are going to try and ride the Big "O" course Wednesday evening. If it rains Wednesday then Thursday. I believe we are meeting at the transition area at about 4:45. I may go a little earlier and get in the water. I plan on being there at about 4:00. Anyone is welcome!!
